Crude I'll admit, but how's this:

That would be the Lockheed Blitz then............. ;)

Yummy!...now that would be fun wouldn't it?
I just love the endless inventiveness that crops up on this web-site!...keep it up chaps!...
It's a big, wide world out there...so if it's all the same to you I'll just stay indoors!

Well, I was thinking more to the tune of, say, the Dornier Do-138 Blitz, a brand new German escort fighter.
Putty-fu, Scratch-jutsu and Bash-chi, the sacred martial arts of the What-If. Mastering them, is Ancient Chinese Secret.

Just your friendly neighbourhood Mad Scientist and Ship-whiffer.

Overkill? Nah, it's Insurance.  So are the 20" guns.

A 1943 Lockheed transport, obviously Lightning derived ...the fixed landing gear would rule out a WHIF sidefiring gusnhip...although you could maybe put a 105 and a crew in the pod in a forward firing position...

Nah - fit a side-firing 106mm recoilless rifle with the barrel extended through one of the u/c fairings and the venturi through the other. Plenty of room for ammo and a reloading crew, and the u/c fairings could actually brace the long barrel, thus allowing you to get every last m/s of muzzle veloctiy out of the thing: perfect.....

I found this montage of several alternative P-38 configurations.  I believe the top four are early design proposals, the bottom two alternative landing arrangements (Greg posted a pic of the floatplane earlier in the thread).  The top two are interesting, seem to have their engines in the fuselage, with shafts driving the props in the wings?  The push-pull is very reminiscent of the Fokker D.XXIII & I can see the ski version in Russian markings.  Found on this forum:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Here's some more - if you look back on pg 3 of this thread, I did some drawings based on these:

Great stuff, the P-38 could have been so much different.

I like (5) the best, and I bet Tophe does too.

Mind you, he'd only give it one wing, on the opposite side to the cockpit!
