J-29 Tunnans intercept an Unidentified Flying Object over Sweden. Date and location of incident, unknown...

That's some pretty sweet artwork!  Is there more?

I found it alone in a thread with a bunch of random pictures, so there is no way to tell. But I will try googleing the artist's name and see if I can come up with anything else.

I for one would love to see that painting on the wall of my hobby room

I wonder if this is based off an encounter (not that they'd admit to it of course) or just a story.

Got this information on the net:

Quote1961, a single unidentified flying object is spotted through out northern Europe, flying at incredible speed.
A pair of SAAB J29F Tunnan scrambles to identify the object but are attacked the very instant they make visual contact. The pilots barely manage to dodge the green slimy goo the UFO fires upon them.
Soon the UFO looses interest in this inferior opponent and nonchalantly speeds away at full speed, not paying these flying machines another thought. No thing made of man can compete with their superior technology, so why bother they thought.
Little did they know, that the J29F, one of the worlds fastest fighters had the capability to intercept and destroy them with the use of their quadruple 20mm cannons.
No UFO's have been spotted over Swedish territory ever since.

That is a really good picture, but could 20mm cannon shells penertrate the hull of a starship?

Seriously though, this is the sort of thing that triggers 'real stories' in UFO publications.

Two examples I know of are:

An artist created a photograph of a UFO poking out of a hanger on an Italian airbase. He published the picture for a laugh. This is now used as 'proof' that UFOs exist.

The second was an artist's impression of a 'project aurora' being escorted by two F111s. This was published in the Daily Telegraph by an ex- Royal Observer corps member who was fishing in the North Sea. The picture, suitably tarted up, is used as 'proof' of the US owning a flying saucer.

I wonder how long before we see this one as 'proof'.

Robert

p.s. I have been 'watching the skies' for 35 years now in the context of amateur astronomy and have seen many UFOs, which are aeroplanes, meteors, clouds, spaceships (Earth built!) etc.

:ar: Hahaha, blow those green aliens and US secret planes to bits! :ar:

(was just a joke)

Considering it would travel high and fast, it would need a lightweight skin, probably quite flimsy. At high speeds, slight holes will tend to tear up the whole craft

That is an awesome bit of art, my new wallpaper!

Interesting artwork...

I recall reading Aliens From Space, by Maj. Donald Keyhoe (USMC ret) and he mentioned an incident where an Eastern Airlines DC-3 was flying from Boston to Hartford, CT, in 1953. The Hartford tower put the DC-3 into a holding pattern with two other airliners, and when the captain asked why, the tower replied "ADC scramble." The captain was also a Major in the Mass. Air National Guard, and he turned his radio to the ADC channel, while the copilot monitored the tower freq on his radio. Just as the captain switched freqs. a large orange-red fireball eurupted, above and ahead of the DC-3, and the captain heard a fighter pilot screaming "I got him! I got him!" The copilot tapped the captain's shoulder, telling him to get back on the tower freq. Hartford tower was screaming into their radio; they thought the airliners had a mid-air. The captain told Keyhoe, who had friends at the Pentagon who didn't like how the USAF and CIA were treating the UFO subject, and they did verify that a high-speed unknown radar contact was tracked over CT that night, and fighters were scrambled. The sources would not say whether anyone fired, though. One source told Keyhoe: "If they shot down a UFO, that's Above Top Secret, and I'm not cleared for that."  Maybe some F-86D or F-94 pilot was lucky and got a kill that night, but given security, wouldn't be able to paint a saucer kill on his aircraft....

Shooting incidents are not uncommon, and a number of air forces (the USAF, IIAF/IRIAF, JASDF, SAF/Voyska PVO, Cuban AF, Dutch AF, ROK AF, and Chinese AF as examples) have been very persistent in this regard.
Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect; but always have a plan to kill them.

Any more info???

Wasn't Belgium the first European country to admit that their AF had an encounter with a UFO??

Don't forget Antonio Villa Boas encounter...

I remember the IRIAF story... Phantoms were scrambled to shoot down the "thing" but their fire control system didn't worked...

What about Thomas Mantell (not sure of the name!) which P-51 was"shot down" by an UFO ?
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

He flew too high, while chasing a weather baloon, thus he died due to oxygen starvation :(

"wouldn't be able to paint a saucer kill on his aircraft.... "

Now that is an interesting idea to put on an aircraft entered in a regular category and see who notices...
