P-40 was very adequate for the original USAAF spec, but when Brits used it in WWII they were disappointed for its performance as a fighter. So I consided the posibility to add a turbocharger to its Allison engine in the same way as P-38. Afterwards some other improvements were considered:
buble top, increased armament and external fuel load.

Great job Ysi! The canopy, is it from a P-39? If so, will the aircraft have the car door type entrance?

Edit: Just re-read your post, sorry. :dum:

Oooooh ysi, what a fantastic way to kick off this GB! That Cobra canopy looks to be a perfect fit for the old Tomahawk, and the way you've flattened the rear fuselage is highly effective. Looks like it left the Curtiss production line like that, terrific!

I can't wait to see what kind of finish you put on it. Perhaps some nicely-done BMF? Oh, I forgot to ask - in which theatre of operations did this variant fly?

Cheers,

Congratulations on being first out of the gate, ysi! Those are some seriously wicked modifications you've made! I'm impressed and I think it's fair to say you've set a high standard with this project! I can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Thanks to all of you.

I really do not know the theater. You know, some spare USAAF decals

The scheme, plain olive drab with light grey undersurfaces, and many stains

In these pics you cannot see the car door because it is in left side. I do not know why P-39 needed two car doors :o

I promise you that in 1 or 2 weeks you will see complete model ;)

That sounds brilliant.
Love the concept too.

They did all that with the P40Q bitching looking ship as well.

wonderful idea there !  Looking good.

Excellent idea beautifully executed.  The nitpicking engineer side of me does wonder just how you're routing the exhausts to the turbocharger.  Given that this is a rework of an existing design, I'd suggest external routing similar to some of the Fw190 turbocharged test aircraft for the Fw190B and Fw190C series.
