Think that this is a major modification. There have been cases in which internal bits have been relocated and almost nothing can be externaly seen: think in Mirage-III vs Mirage-V.

It's plausible, but I imagine the pilots will definitely require insulation and protection around the exhaust ducting.  That would allow a fairly simple redesign of the lower sidewall areas of the cockpit and make for a bit tighter squeeze getting in and out, but nothing that couldn't be lived with.

Actually, if I was doing the redesign, I'd take a page from what NAA did with the Mustang as part of the production redesign for the Merlin installation.  They dropped the wing 3 inches relative to the fuselage datums and ran the radiator lines over the wing to the back fuselage.  They did have to put a plywood floor in the cockpit where previously the floor had been the top of the wing, but it was a very straight-forward effort that definitely improved the Mustang's producibility.  I'd likely do the same thing here, or say I did, as in 1/72 it'd hardly be noticeable.

Hi Evan, very interesting what you posted about Mustang.

BTW: do you know what houses the ventral fairing, between wings, in real P-40B? I could not see in cutaway drawings and I previewed to put a lot of things there.

Wow that's absolutely awesome, ysi!!! I'm particularly impressed by your paintwork, especially on the underside. This has got to be one of the most unique P-40 bashes I've ever seen and I'm sure it would cause countless double-takes at a model show. Very convincing!
