Now you've done it!     The Hobbycraft Hawk 75 M/N/O (or whatever triple letter designation it was) needs to get lined up with a  :(  Tamiya Fw-190A3 to see if the parts blend well enough.   Thank goodness for Luckymodel dot com which sells Tamiya stuff cheap even with shipping!

Regarding colors, I have my own ficticious German scheme which anyone is free to use:

RLM 82 port wing with a RLM 83 aileron
RLM 83 starboard wing with a RLM 82 aileron
RLM "84" (Gunze 'Sky') sides and undersides
RLM 83/82/83/82 topside on fuselage with 3 tiger stripes proceeding down the flanks just before the tail.
Red Trim on the tail.

That's kind of my mark but like mentioned above, anyone is free to duplicate.
I used it on my Ta-183 too.

So, a Hawkengruber would get the same scheme.

PS:  Vichy markings would serve that airframe well, much like the Morko Morane looks so good in yellow-nosed Finnish garb!

Plan revision:

The BMW 801 power egg is waay too wide for a Hawk75 M/N/O  <_<  :(  :(  :(
In order to fare it in, one would have to fill all the way back to the rear quarter windows, redo the entire wing root, amongst other things.

Shucks!

PanzerWulff

How about a Sabre engined P-40 with 4x20mm cannon in the wings or even more insane would be the engine off the FG-1 Super Corsair with a spinner and a 5 or 6 blade prop???

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Nice ones......

thinking.....now I've "retired" again, the P-40-build is back in swift progress.
Got some Hobby Boss 1/72nd kits to play with but the 1/48th Arii kit is "up" first as a V-tail :P

As a quicky after finishing building a Chinese Harrier GR3-ish and a Sesquiplane SE5A (RAF silver), I started a Hobby Boss 1/72nd P-40N. Lovely mouldings, there's a fit problem with the top/bottom of the fuselage sections, but nothing that sanding can't cure.
To be RN and I'll complete the construction today.

Then....on with the P-40E V-tail.

This idea may or may not come to fruition so I'll start here.

Premise:   US Navy quickly needs high altitude patrol aircraft to ward off Japanese recon flights.  The urgency allows no time for development of a new airframe, thus an existing machine gets chosen.   P-38's, P-47's, P-51's, Corsairs, and Hellcats are all priority fighters and thus not available.    The P-40 gets chosen instead to retrofit existing airframes into a Navalized high-altitude Recon Ridder.   A few are completed and brought to service.

The kit:  Hasegawa Kittyhawk Mk.IV (P-40N)

The mods:   Monogram turbocharger from P-38 under the nose a la XP-37.   Intercooler placed behind engine.  Wings extended significantly, but not quite to the extent of a Ta-152.  High-altitude cockpit pressurisation.  Navalized hooks, landing gear.   Significantly lightened to aid high-altitude performance.

Overall Gloss Sea blue with white leading edges.  Minimal markings.

If it can't be completed in time for the GB terminus, I'll just keep running a parallel thread on the Workbench page.

PS:  The family took priority this long weekend over the P-40 Sport.

This is why I think a high-altitude P-40 Recon Wrecker could have been developed....

My V-tail could soon be resurrected...thinking something like Italian?
Or USAAF 8th AF??

That would be very cool, Radish! See if you can get some pics taken of it and enter it! Having you participate would be great!

Besides, I can never see enough of those famous Campion models!
