Hi, people (and senators)

I need ideas to whiff a Sea Vixen as an advanced fighter or after a mid life upgrade that would allow it to participate in Desert Storm, for instance.

Thanks in advance :)

Perhaps replace the Avon engines with a pair of RB.199s or the like...

lengthen the fuselage a bit in the nose and put in a more conventional tandem cockpit with both crew members visible.

Desert pink sea Vixen! Ysi, this is an awesome idea...
humbrol 250, you need to use Humbrol 250 to have this cool desert sheme worn by British aircrafts in operation Granby (Granby yum !!     )

pin up on the side of the nose.
I think a F-15 B/ D/E  canopy would look cool...
wingtip AAMs
enlarged intakes
RB-199 is a cool idea
shorter wingspan
thiner wing to allow supersonic speeds
conformal fuel tanks (would look awesome!)
AIM-7 sparrows
Laser designator similar to the Jaguar
LGBs

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Actually, side-by-side would work a little better without having to lengthen the nose any. I envision using the cockpit section of a two-seat Hunter...

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

I'm thinking an A-37 canopy might work better and give somewhat better visibility rearwards than the Hunter T.7's.

At that, try to bash the very nice Academy A-37 with a Sea Vixen; not only do you get the side by side cockpit, but you get a nice selection of COIN style weaponry you might be able to adapt to it.

As a side note, Archibald's comment about "desert pink" Sea Vixens has my brain racing in two directions:

1: a RAF land based variation with enough of the grey/green tactical camo showing through to be interesting

2: All the great nose art you could have based on a "Vixen" theme

Another thought strikes me just now; Make it a land based RAF version and instead of going Operation Granby with it, put it in winter camo like they used to do with Jaguars and send it to Norway for some excercises.

Options.

Changes to the wing, where looked at, the simplest just adds a bit more area.

Most major was a new delta wing. This seems to have had a change to the inlets with some king of extension.

Highest performers used either a single gyron or two RB106.

Reheat adds some small amount of length and depth to the end of the jetpipes.

A rocket motor was looked at, sited between and above the jet engines of the normal version.

A change of radar was offered in the 60's.

The RAF offering of the 50's had a FSW tail, instead of the straight bar tailplane, it also had a wider cockpit canopy, letting the radar operator sit at the same level as the pilot, next to him, if I think a little behind so as not to impede visilibilty for the pilot.
This also had a bulged spine for more fuel.
To win without fighting, that is the mastry of war.

My own Sea Vixen mods were as follows:

Sea Vixen, RAN

Vixen, RAAF

Vixen RNZAF

these aircraft would be Multirole fighters for naval use - FRS designator or strike aircraft for land based use - GR designator

Major aircraft mods would inlcude replacement of Red Top with AIM-9 series, internal gun/s, extra pylons on land based aircraft and IFR probes for both types.

Please don't do it. The Sea Vixen is fine as she is in her RN clothing!  :(

I love her so much, I just can't bring myself to whiff her.

Neither of those would be much use in hot areas such as the middle east though would they?

Would have to lose a lot of the bulk to make that workable I think.

Not a great fan of Russ Meyer, just heard about it.
Well, the guy made a movie named "Super vixens" with big boobs girls (as usual with Meyer   ). Some insipration for a noseart...

I can't wait for that one.

I'm either going for an OOB FAA bird or sticking some Indian Navy markings on it.

I've got some left over Indian Navy markings from a Sea Harrier kit and though the Sea Vixen would make a good interim aircraft between the Sea Hawk and the Harrier. Of course the INS Vikrant would have to be a whole lot bigger to make it work I think....
