The VICKERS-SUPERMARINE STARFIRE..

Built from the 1/35-ish Star Wars Starfighter (the Revell easy build).

The kits is an impressive dream.
I built the cockpit assembly having done only the merest detailing. All painted black with drybrushing then some details picked out in colour. It looks good.

The main bodywork, is of course, prepainted, but that's irrelevant.
I cleaned up a few tiny mould marks (from habit more than any real reason, but it pays to be sure!) and assembled the rest.
I missed off the R2D2 unit.....well, who needs oneon a RAF fighter?...and just added a few bits of strip, rod and sprue here and there. Not a lot though.

There's no u/c so I bodged a hole in the bottom of the cockpit and superglued a length of sprue in there so that I could sit the Starfire on a base.

After masking the cockpit interior with toilet tissue, I sprayed it all in black primer.
After a day drying, I lightly drybrushed the exterior in Bestial Brown and Dwarf Flesh. The armament and engine exhausts received a drybrushing in Tin Blitz and Boltgun Metal.
The canopy and front glazing were painted in Light Blue to reflect the unit markings of 19 Sqn, RAF. They are prepainted in Pale Grey anyway.

Then, fun over an evening or so, with a silver pencil, creating some subtle wear and tear.

Decals were applied over a base of Klear (Future) Floor Polish.
They come from Model Alliance "RAF BAe Hawks Part 1", and are of 19 Sqn. The roundels are low viz blue and pink and look great on the black-ish airframe.
After drying, the decals are covered in flat varnish.
The transparancies are attached and some dribbles of hydraulic fluid are added from Tamiya Smoke applied with a thin brush.

The Starfire is glued onto a suitably painted base from a Coffee jar, modified to "take" a Starfire in 1/35-ish.
A figure (Dragon but otherwise anonymous) is painted black, then drybrushed in blue for overalls. This is to give a sense of scale.

All I need to do now is print off a text and add it to my collection for display.

Oh, and take a photo or two

The Revell Star Wars kits are glorious.
I have a few more and lots of decals

Well, youngest daughter is moving her stuff (again) as she moves out (again) and as much is dumped on the dining table, I can't get to "it" so that I can use it to photograph models.
Should be clear tomorrow night......but I'm at Blackburn over the weekend for more Rocky Horror debauchery

Next week then -_-  ;)

Didn't realise before but the Obi-wan Starfighter is different from the Anakin Starfighter.
The paint colours are obviously different, but the moving outer wing panels are different too.
This means:

Anakin Starfighter = VS Starfire Mk.1
Obi-wan Starfighter=VS Starfire Mk 2

Other versions can be built by adding extras to create additional versions
Many more will appear as they're lovely

USMC/USN
Italy
Germany
French Navy
USAF
Japanese
Pakistani

Such wonderful opportunities

How about one in all gloss black with the Playboy Bunny on the side?  But honestly anything would do so long as we see a picture of it!

Martin, I'm planning on popping down to Cov/Warks on March 16th?? or thereabouts for their meeting. I'll of course bring daft stuff along.
I'm hoping to sort some piccies soon, especially as eldest daughter is moving in and she's got a more modern brain than mine.

Done a bit of drybrushing....nice and subtle (for me anyway) and done the cockpit interior.
I'll put the decals on this afternoon (USN lov viz from a Tomcat) and then flat varnish and "chip" with a silver pencil.....I LOVE THE SILVER PENCIL...tomorrow.

Having searched through all my decals.....I can't find ANY USN/USMC to suit.
Yes, OK on a grey scheme, not on black.
So the grey one'll need to be a future idea.

Putting the bright high-viz CAF markings from a Hawk 101 on NOW!!

Go, Canada, GO!!!
