I recently picked up a CollectAire XP-67 Moonbat from a friend. It's already started, to the point that I just have to add the fiddly bits, cockpit and landing gear. However, I'm not too keen on OD/gray. I'm considering a post war racer, but am looking for other ideas and this seems to be the best place.

Post war racer is always cool  :)

You could do a...

daytime heavy long range escort fighter, maybe for use in the Pacific

post war use by some country like Argentina or Cuba is another good way to go

Terry,

The post-war racer is what came to mind without reading any of the submissions.   One could also do USMC/Korea in overall Gloss Sea Blue as the monochrome would maximise one's appreciation of the shape.   Being resin, folding wings are likely right out or even a rescribe for fold lines.
Another suggestion would be USAF Vietnam with a pair of underwing gun pods and some scabbed on cockpit armor.  Green79/Green102/Tan219/Grey.

Monte Python never used these did he?

Daryl J., in Portland where it is snowing......again!

With the monochrome idea mentioned earlier, I have a feeling it would look great in post war RAF high speed silver with big squadron markings on either side of the roundels.

Or possibly a RAF Cyprus based one in grey/green over silver with Suez stripes on it.

I do like Wooksta's idea of a Pacific based aircraft, but my inclination would be to make it RAAF. I think it would look great in the green/brown camo with the all white tail.

Staying in the Pacific, you could also do an overall silver finish and put it in French service in Indochina.

You could also scratch build a couple of camera ports on here (or find them on the aftermarket, I think Pavla makes them for recce Spitfires) and do it all over PRU blue.

You could also do a Soviet lend/lease bird out of it too.

Those are just a few ideas that jump to mind.

Still say a lead ship for fire-bombers.  :D

Central/South American would also be cool...I have Hagedorn's Latin American Air Wars if you want to borrow some 'inspiration'.

Here's one recently completed by John Payne, in the colors of a USAAF P-38 unit:

Well my Anigrand kit will be SEAC, and I've seen an Australian version in Foliage Green/Grey with SW Pacific recognition markings. Looked really good.

But how about French in Indo China instead of the Mosquito's they used ? Nationalist Chinese ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

My vote: USAF in Korea: bare metal, colourfull unit markings and nose art.

BTW: I love this plane

The Moonbat is one of my favourites, and I just posted a photo of a night fighter version over on the "Completed projects" forum.   I used the Anigrand kit.

Suez Crisis, you've got a few options.

French Navy, in overall Sea Blue with suez stripes, would look good with the fin flash & anchor markings.

IDF/AF in brown blue over pale gray with suez stripes & red spinners like their Mosquito's.  You could also add a radar nose for a night fighter & paint the underside black like their Meteors.

Egyptian Air Force in NMF or overall silver.  Not as big a stretch as you'd think, they used Spitfires which had been in storage prior to the conflict.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Another idea, Vietnam COIN bird.  Bomb it up till the wings are about to fall off & put in SEA camouflage for USAF, white/grey for USN.  If you can find decals for South Vietnamese Air Force, even better.

EDIT, found some on an Albatross sheet for the A-37, this sheet would give you a hell of a lot of other options too:

Mmmm, IAF!  Can't wait to see it!

Another one, Zirkus Rosarius, captured P-67 in German markings, RLM 74 uppersurfaces, RLM 04 undersides & tail.
