BlackOps, you might be able to modify the Unicraft Me-109TL conversion; here's a link.

Steve, thanks for the link (pretty cool) but I think I'm going to fake it and see what I come up with...sure I may regret it later but I gotta give it a whirl to find out :)

Well, it's been a lot longer than I thought it would be to get back to building but I think I'm back on track now.

Got the engine attached

I didn't set the engine deep enough into the frame so it sticks out a bit more than I originally planned. One of those things you don't notice until you get the putty just right. Now I'm going to have a problem with my landing gear being to short.

I could always build it gear up but I'm open to suggestions for altering the landing gear without making it look too far out of propotion.

I think this would have been a lot easier in 1/48 instead of 1/72!

OK, here's some more progress. While trimming down the nose, I shattered it and got some decent cracks I had to repair. (Maybe a jigsaw was a little overkill).

Now for a little styrene glued in the nose for a base to add putty to.

Next step, putty.

Add a slightly reduced diameter section to the middle of each gear leg so that when the gear retracts, it can shorten to fit the space available.  You'll probably also want to add the appropriaate linkage between the top and bottom portions of the gear.

Wow that looks great, Jeff, even better than I'd imagined! I love the engine installation and the lip you've added to the nose. This one's gonna be killer!

I used Aves Apoxie Sculpt for the first round of putty. It's good for getting the basic shape filled in. I did a quick coat of grey paint so I could see how much work I still need to do. Needless to say, I still have some shaping filling and smoothing to do in round two.

I also have to decide what I'm going to do in the throat of this beast, I could swallow other aircraft whole if I get on their tail!

Love it! it looks so soviet. Just stick a jet under something that works.

Mossie

I've missed this one somehow but wow, is it looking good or what!  I really want to see this one finished!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

After seeing this, I share Mossie and Ysi opinions!!
Having the jet pipe exhausting below the fuselage is something I would never thought about!!
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

The soviets did, have a look at  the yak15/17 and the mig-9. They are great, so crude. "Hey! There's a plane lets bolt this jet engine under it!"

I'm going to get as close to taking this advice as I can, but in 1/72 it's pretty tough.
I will admit when I first read this I thought yeah, right!  :dum:  But the more I thought about it the more I figured what have I got to lose?
If it doesn't work I'll build it gear up, if it works I'll thank Evan for getting me to try something I never would have tried before :)  (Thanks Evan!)
Actually if the glue holds I think this will do nicely. Don't let the pics fool ya either this stuff is small
