Well I've just bought a bunch of 1/72 Hunter u/c sets from Aeroclub and I can see where one of the spare kit sets is going to go, on my SR.53 I have.  I'd been wondering how I could enhance the model a bit.  Add to that some of Freightdog's wonderful little Firestreak missiles and this could end up looking quite sharp.

The Space UK website has a good bit of info on the SR.53 and SR.177. Sadly I'm at work and don't have the link to hand, but Google should have it.

EDIT: found the link. The site can be found here.

The SR 53 has been a favourite of mine for a long time. I remember getting the Airfix kit in the 1960s. It would now be condemmed by 'real expert' modellers, but what alternative is there? I would love to be able to afford a Freightdog SR 177 but I will have to make do with the Project X vac form. I have picked up some reboxed ex Airfix SR 53s for a reasonable price, but like most of my stash it is in storage.........

I remember reading that the SR 53 couldn't have done the interceptor role as it didn't have a radar and at the expected operational heights and speeds missile aiming would have been impractical.

Anyone know if an Airfix SR.53 can be found?  It'd make a good contrast next to Freightdogs SR.177, the good looking one next to it's aggressive f**k ugly sibling!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
