Well, obligatory pre-production pic and the floats are done and primered----that's gotta count for something.

P.S.  I just love this AMT kit!

Baz, I can't wait to see this one! B) Are the floats from a Spitfire kit/conversion?
I have the same kit collecting dust downstairs, was thinking about putting a Soviet radial on it.

Welcome aboard, Mr Howling Mouse! Those floats look like a perfect fit for a P-40. I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Skill level Two ?

You just already know that this one is going to be hot, don't ya ?

Floats are from Tamiya's very nice Seiran kit.

I considered modifying them into reeeeeeeeeally big spats with about 8 inline tires each, just to sway the GB judge.

But then I recalled final voting will most likely be done via an unbiased, legitimate poll, anyhow....  :P

Now, I have a general question re: two possible schemes for this floatplane:

1. Go with a believable naval scheme for the WWII era
2. Use my wacky "coral" technique/scheme (see attached)

Which would be the "right" thing to choose?

Coral!

Did you check the Seiran floats for size? They are very big; I used them on my floatplane FW-190A8 and they where a bit on the large size...

This is the curse of speed;  I have been a slave to it all my life. On my gravestone they will carve 'It never got fast enough for me'.

Coral! I love unconventional camo!   :)

Floats are gonna look cool. Speaking of floats I gotta go see if we have any more rootbeer!

For a quick referance of what looks similar, see the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29.
It would be rather cool!

Arrrggghhh!  Dash & tarnation!!!  I've been thinking of a float plane too Baz, I've been having trouble coming up with something nobody else is doing!  My approach would be a different one, (puts on best Holywood-British accent, difficult when you come from Yorkshire!) would you mind awwwfully if I did one too?  Don't want too rain on your parade mate!

Simon.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Gotta go Coral with big red Soviet stars! Or maybe French Aeronavale markings?

I love different camo schemes!

Well, I might as well admit it - I'm doing a 'floater' too.
Single main, off a Rufe, like the cartoon drawing that was posted here earlier.

I was looking at the 'coral' scheme you've dreamed up, and decided to share one of my  sci-fi models that has a similar look. The 'bot is a Hygog from the Gundam universe, and I got my inspiration for the scheme after looking in a swimming pool for too long.

Mossie: go for it!  There's really nothing "original" I can claim about slapping floats on any given airplane.  Looking forward to your vision of the same concept.

Rotorhead TX:  I can't live up to THAT!!!  That is phenomenal!

Holy FLASH, Batman!

I've built this fantastic AMT P-40 kit before and found it to be flawless but this particular unit was made in Mexico.
Don't know if it's a difference in QC levels or if the mold simply began to show its age by the time production went south but there is soooo much flash plastic on nearly every part.

Most pieces will have to be carved out from the thin film of flash before I can even paint them.  So much for the easy quick-build idea...   <_<

Just like Barry, always goin' for the flashy kits ;)     Sorry couldn't resist  :dum:

Does look like a bit of extra work.

Quote from MM's preview of the AMT P-40F kit:

"As you can see from the image, there is quite a bit of flash on these sprues.  This is probably because of the lower quality control in the Mexican factories where these kits were made (the factory has since moved to China where AMT's quality control seems much better.)"
