I've got the same problem, Baz, with my P-40K.....which is why I never built it.
The new Italeri P-40 is AMT-based and hopefully will be OK.

Floats is a nice idea.
What are you going to do with the Seiran?

The floaty-P-40 could look nice in all-over white, heavily weathered but with bright French Navy markings.
Or what about one from the River War in Brazilian colours, or even South Vietnamese?
What about a post-War Greek one looking for topless sun seekers? ;) An excuse for nose art!!
Hey.....that gives me an idea!!!

I'm ahead of you there Rad.....
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Radish

But ideas for a Greek one?

All tatty and disgusting in SEAsia colours, or the modern greys?
Or "flesh" tones?
"Airacutie" artwork along the fuselage sides and someone "busty" on the nose?
Oooooh...errrrrr!!!

MMmmmmmm???

Started to cut up the Revell 1/48th "E" from the stash last night at Mercia....very nice, really.
I think I'll do it.....SHOCK......REAL!!!! ;)

QuoteSo much for the easy quick-build idea...   <_<
*points at Barry and laughs for even contemplating such a ridiculous notion*

BTW, I would go for as real as possible - see how many double takes you can generate.  Do it in test markings rather than operational.

Hey Radish:  Seiran will likely end up as an early jet fighter prototype---I kid you not.   ;)

The P-40 is coming along nicely.  This is round two of PSR.  Should be good enough.  Only trouble with this kit (AMT, mfg in Mexico) was the overwhelming amount of flash.  I'm not talking the cutesy, sneeze-and-it-falls-off-on-its-own stuff, either.  This one had flash the thickness of the final plastic in places!

This underside shot shows the wheel-wells blanked off and the shroudy-thingamajigs for the landing gear removed:

Some cockpit shots.  You can see my aim in drilling out the exhausts could have been better.  I even used an awl to make an initial starting point for the drillbit.

Meh!  Oh, and my comment about the cockpit being kind of rudimentary is not a dig at the kit whatsoever.  In fact, for the money, their cockpit is just fine.  I just did not put any serious effort into painting it.  This is a "wet-on-wet" finish-it-in-half-an-hour cockpit.

Baz, beautiful work yet again! Since you used the M/N style tail will there be an extra ventral fin added? Can't wait to see it finished.

Heh, heh----you're quick...  Oh yeah, have a look:

I will also make some small auxillary vertical fins for the tailplanes!

Ventral fin's on.

I'll sand down the quick-fix styrene plug you see in the tailwheel well.

Oh look, 45 minutes later and I have apparently re-invented... the guitar pick (little auxillary fins for the tailplanes):

Aye carumbaa Mr Howling Mouse you're in the process of building yet another gem! I am particularly impressed with the ventral fin and "guitar-pick" auxilliary rudders! It's touches like this that take something deceptively simple completely to the next level!

Man I'm kinda glad I can't find a 1/72 scale P-40 as my entry would surely wilt before such tough competition!
