Sweden were not the only country during WWII that had to rely on domestic production ...

Background:
In the mid 40's, Australia (as all other countries fighting in the WWII) were in the need of more airplanes. Because of the need, a quickly designed aircraft were developed and a short time after, the CAC Wombat were in the production lines of the Lorimer Street factory in Fishermen's Bend.

This aircraft were exported to UK, New Zealand and South Africa.

A total of 208 aircrafts were manufactured. None survived the early sixties.

Span:   14.2 m

At the January meeting with members of my local club IPMS Dalarna, www.ipmsdalarna.org, I was allowed to get some parts from another member's spare parts box. As a result I brought with me some fuselages and a couple of wings and together with parts from my own spare parts box, I started building this plane.

It's design consists of a Mosquito fuselage, wings from one aircraft, horizontal stabilizers from another and an engine taken from yet another. All in 1/72.

I cut off the top of the fin, cut off the pointing rear part of the fuselage tail and modified the place for the wings. Then I put things together.

You might want to zoom more out with the camera, they will become more clear then ;)

When the engine and the wings were in position, it was time for a bit of grinding, filling and sanding, before it was ready for primer.
Priming were made by using spray can from Scandinavian Paints grey primer.

During drying time, the stab were sanded and primed.

Being seen as a flying model, the landing gears are retracted and because of that, the doors were covered by plastic.
Filling, sanding and priming as usual ...

After that, the plane and the stab were brush painted in matt dark green (Humbrol 30) and matt leather (Humbrol 62).

Mick,

Looking good - can't wait to see more pics.  What's the role of the Wombat?  I assume some sort of light bomber/medium attack - along the lines of the Fairey Battle or Skyraider?

QuoteThis aircraft were exported to UK, New Zealand and South Africa.

Also, given that only 208 were manufatured, I'm assumming that not too many were actually exported.

Either way, a truly creative scratch build.

Regards,

Greg
All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Maverick

Looking nice, makes the Mossie look quite different.

Is it going to be a two-seater, or more a single seat job?

Mav

Rafael

Not even complete and already has the elegance of a racer
I like the camo choice, Is it a wrap-around job or has anothe color on the undersides?
Anyway, looks beautiful.

It is so exciting to see parts mixed and matched this way.
You're doing very well and this is going to end up as a real head-turner (that's a good thing!).

;)
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Thanks for your comments!
I was thinking of a kind of single-seat, light bomber type of aircraft.

I was originally thinking of using the primer as main colour on under surfaces, but then decided to use US ghost grey (Humbrol 127).

After drying, it was time for some extras. Some spare bombs from my parts box were renovated and attached to the wings.

wow! This model looks good. I'm a fan of CAC aircrafts (Wirraway- Boomerang - CA-15)
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.
