IIRC the puppet Afghan govt set up by the Soviets had quite a bit of ex-Soviet kit in their arsenal.  What's the bet that most of the senior pilots had names like 'Ivan' or 'Yuri' tho??

I found this tidbit over on Air Vectors:

The Hind could carry ten 100 kilogram (220 pound) iron bombs for attacks on strongpoints, while harder targets could be dealt with using a load of four 250 kilogram (550 pound) or two 500 kilogram (1,100 pound) iron bombs. Some Hind crews became expert "snipers" in dropping or tossing bombs precisely on targets. Fuel-air explosive bombs were also used in a few instances, though initially crews underestimated the sheer blast force of such weapons and were caught by shockwaves that rattled their teeth.

They were also reportedly used by the Northern Alliance and the Taliban.
