I've built three Unicraft kits and have another four waiting - most of them are of a type I campaigned to have kitted and Unicraft was the one that came to my
rescue but over the last year I've truly struggled to work on them.

They're real passion projects but it's just so daunting.

Do tell - what are they?  My usual passion projects are either Lightnings or Whirlwinds, but I might have room for another ...  :)

Yup all the omens have to come together and the deities of your choice all have to be smiling upon you at the same time, but when that happens they can be quite enjoyable, or at least an achievement

An icon of New Zealand aviation, the Fletcher FU-24 agricultural aircraft. 297 built and one is in my parents' driveway. Igor aka Unicraft answered the call to kit it in 1/72and it seems to have been so popular he later brought it out in 1/48 as well.

Here's a quick clip of my own Fletcher, s/n87, at work: https://youtu.be/PG9j017X3BY There's another 20min video on my channel if you're keen to see more of ZK-CBG. I think it's time I filmed a walkaround of her current state.

Great Fletcher rarity. The dihedral for the external part of the wings only reminds me the Jodel French aircraft.

Igor was a member on here for a very short while a good number of years back.

If I remember correctly his opening post started with "Hi Im Igor from Unicraft. Please dont hurt me"

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Unfortunately I can think of one forum member who may have made Igor's time here not worth it, going by his very negative posts whenever the brand is mentioned.  :-\

The Wooksta!

Negative? Damn right. I object strongly to paying top end CMR prices for badly cast lumps of appallingly bad and cheap resin. I've thrown away better castings than he's charging top whack for. And after 25 YEARS, the quality of the end product is still the same as it was in the beginning. Yes, the masters may have improved, but if you do the casting with the same cheap and nasty resin he uses, then you're still releasing a sub standard product. Again, my analogy of the perfect shepherd's pie recipe but made with dog food rather than actual meat still holds.

At one point about ten years back, you could get several Unicraft "products" as copies from Belgian manufacturer Vami.  Same subject, same parts (they were cloned) but cast in better resin and at half the price. They were 100℅ better simply due to the resin and some semblance of quality control.

In addition, he's poisoning the well for other smaller manufacturers as with a kit out, it splits the market for any other niche product.

Can we please keep the comments civilized here?

I personally think that if there's anyone to be negative about it's a freeloader who copies other peoples kits and sells them as his own.
Bashing a particular manufacturer however is easy. If you don't like his products, don't buy them.

I think we can conclude that some people like Unicraft kits for different reasons and other don't  ;)

Totally agree with Tom.

We all have different opinions of lots of manufacturers and we are more then entitled to them, but we don't perhaps have to be quite as fierce when it comes to expressing them.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

kitnut617

I agree Chris, Tom.

But considering Unicraft has been around for a long time and is still here, they must have quite a following. If anyone has looked at the galleries on the website, you can see a lot of people like what he produces and build the kits.

Got to admit I get fed up with this and Hasegawa thread. Broken records.  We're all aware of the issues, if only because they're dredged up again every time someone posts a new product.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
