Hey fellow P-40 fanatics!

Who did the gorgeous lil RR Dart-powered P-40 profile? I received my long-awaited second Monogram N today (thanks a million Nick you legend!) and I was just trolling for the profile, but it seems to have disappeared! Oh no!

Any help gratefully appreciated, for the time being I'll work on backstory.

And until next time,
CURTISS IS KING!

Zac, one way of getting a Dart would be to rob an engine from a Transall or Brequet Atlantic.  They use Tyne's, which was a seperate development to the Dart but used a lot of it's basic design.  The cowlings are very similar in size & shape except the Tyne has a small air scoop underneath.

Heller do a Transall, which is pretty crap & you should be able to get it pretty cheap from ebay or some such.  Revell do both an Atlantic & a Transall which are fantastic but may be a bit expensive just to rob an engine from.  If you get a Heller kit, try & go for the C-160G 'Gabrielle' version, you get an extra sprue for no extra cost with all the SIGINT lumps & bumps which may come in handy for future whiffs.

You could probably pass the Tyne off as a Dart, especially if you were willing to do some work to remove the scoop, but you could get away without doing it.  Or you could just admit it was a Tyne & you'd have a P-40 with about 5,700hp!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks a million Brian!

And Mossie, thank you as well! 5,700hp.....  That would be totally insane! I wouldn't mind a bit of surgical work! I just need to find the donor kits......really just the nacelle and prop as I can afford diddly-squat at the mo....

Long nose P-40! Allied response to FW-190D!

AWWWWW ther goes one of my ideas although I plan on using an Aillison turboprop from a C-130 (the cowlings have a rather similar appearance)
Great minds think alike Zac!!! B)  B)  B)

^_^ Go for it, Chris! The more the merrier. You never can have too many P-40s, anyways.

I would promise I'd start it today, but I have a feeling my R/W 1:72 E and 1:48 M will end up taking up my time, as well as the total bastardization of the Airfix `1:72 E....But I'll keep you posted anyhow.

Zac, I'm so happy one of my profiles will be modeled! If you would like a larger size profile I'd be happy to send it to you.
As a side note, I'm currently drawing up a RR Dart (German copy) powered Ta-152C to go along with the alternate history of Fatherland by Robert Harris.

Awesome...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

RR Dart P-40Q anybody ?  ;)

Having just chopped up a Transall for my QTR project and also just very recently received a 1/72 Rug Rats Vickers Viscount I'd say that there is considerable difference between the two engines, especially in diameter, the Tyne being quite a bit bigger than the Dart.

Although I also have a Dart Herald, I haven't been able to compare the Darts on that to the Transalls Tynes yet.

You can buy the Heralds real cheap  ;)

But then I would be using Tynes on a project like this  ^_^

Robert

And before anyone asks, the spare Tynes I have are for another project I'm thinking about.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Archibald,

That's pretty similar to what I had in mind here.  Where did you find the P-40Q drawing?

which would create a rocket... (exhaust alone could take it into space! just joking :P )

How about a P-40 powered by a Gnome Rhòne engine of WW1?

GTX

Well if we're really out for a powerful beast how about a P-40 powered by a TP400-D6?!
