QuoteI have been considering making a two seater F-20B, just that I have no idea how to build or kitbash the second seat.  Do you suppose they used an F-5F cockpit?
Yep, it would've used a F-5F front end, save that it would've had the F-20 radar nose with the later, sharknose, contours.  I know a guy in the shop did one and showed it to T.V. Jones when he was still CEO; got a good reception, too, but nothing further was done with the concept.  If someone wants to do a "different" F-20, there was the one they set quite a range record with, it had F-5A/B tip tanks and underwing it had the drop tanks from, I believe, a F-101.

Note:  The F-20, like the F-5E/F, retained the plumbing to use the wingtip tanks, but I don't believe they were ever officially cleared to fly with them.  I understand the Northrop rep in some country had a bit of a conniption fit when that country's air force did a holiday fly-by with F-5E/Fs equipped with those tiptanks.

Love that 2-holer, and IJ I'm sure yours will be the usual show stopper  B)

Awesome stuff there.   That's giving a very expensive kit excellent treatment.   I look forward to more.

Well, chums, it's coming up to a month since I last did anything to this monster. Managed to run out of Maskol a couple of weeks back so had nowt to mask the light olive green with. Got some on Monday so have been able to get back into this one.

Hopefully will get back into the paint shed on Saturday afternoon for a quick hour with the F-20 and some Xtracolour US Forest Green and my trust Aztek ;)

It's Back !

Lured back to the workbench by a promise to actually get finished :o, I persuaded my year old F-20 to leave the corner of the 'pending' box where it had been cowering. Gave it a wash down with soapy water, cheked to see that noneof the filler had shrunk and cracked - it hadn't, then dived into some hand painting (loadout, RWR aerials, radome, tyres etc). No pics yet - will finish the detail painting first then give it a coat of gloss varnish or Johnsons Kleer, before you see any pics.

Made a promise to m'self, NOT to start the Gekko 262, before finishing this thing.

Updates after the weekend. Thanks for looking.

Wow!  Back to this already??  But it's only been one year!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Ya know, these blokes who leave a project on the back-bench for up to a year really irk me to no end!

heh, heh, heh...

Nice to see this up-front and center again, Ian.  Those first few cockpit pics were (again) a real shock to the old eyes (forgot how good this office was!).

Looking forward to seeing more progress on this even if I did really like the overspray look  ;D  You have yet to dissappoint!

So las summer it looked like this:-

The lighter green masked and the US Forrest Green sprayed. I didn't take any more photos until I dug the thing out this weekend. So here it is to date. The main painting is obviously finished, but that dark grey doesn't look nearly dark enough to my eyes, having seen Alpha Jets & Recce Rhinos with this colour, first hand, I KNOW it's closer to an 'off black' than what Xtracolour would have you believe. Anyhoos I'll leave it for now, if I just cannot live with it later, I'll just mask it and re-spray it another time.

So that would be me doing decals later today ! Thanks for looking.

You've got a great eye for camo schemes, Ian! I like the look of it as is and I might be tempted to steal a little inspiration from this beauty!

You're making me cast a thoughtful eye at the Hase F-20 I picked up last weekend.
