As the flight of seven aircraft approached the landing strip nicknamed HMS Sheathbill at Port San Carloss on 2 June 1982 the pilots were in both a sense of exuberance after their epic 10 hour flight from Ascension and sadness at the loss of one aircraft, although the pilot had ejected into the South Atlantic when his refuelling probe broke off on the last refuleing hook up from the VC10 and a full search was underway, the odds were against ever finding him.
This was brought quickly to an end as a Rapier battery fired on the aircraft as they did not apere on any of their recognition charts, causing serious damaging one aircraft which made a straight in aproce crash landing at the makeshift airfield.
This was not a good start to the deployment of the new BAe Kingston P1233. Hurricane 2.
The initial deployment of 8 aircraft were sent straight from the factory were the preproduction/test  aircraft of this new type were undergoing tests, and some of them still had test gear onboard during the whole war. In common with all the deployed aircraft AS90 was fitted with its 40mm hypervelocity missile system, and two 7.62 mini-gun pods for most of the war, and also used whatever weapons could be found at the airbase such as 40mm rockets and 250 lb bombs, but it still had its test instalment boom fitted and was nicknamed "Red Horn". The Hurricane 2 was not designed to use a in flight refuelling setup, as it was expected to operate just behind the front lines with the harrier force, as a flying gun platform to combat the growing threat to soviet anti aircraft mobile systems and tanks, but as with other aircraft such as the Hercules and nimrod a system was quickly fitted and fitted with long range tanks giving each aircraft with a five hour unrifled flight range
Their first action came on the night of 11 June when they supported the attacks against Mount Harriet, Two sisters and Mount Longdon using their hyper guns to take out the argentine emplacements.
The next day they attacked Port Stanley Airfield destroying a Hercules on the runway closing the last way of the island for the argentine forces to escape

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Hell, I've just noticed the markings on the tail... this come from Airfix two-seat Harrier no ?  ;)

Impressive work on the camo!!! I've just made my first atempt at fractal camo, and feel that  I'm years behind you!!
