We have seen the name 'Hurricane' mentioned in reference to the P1121, however your best bet is to ask Overscan as he's done some serious research into the P1121 and should be able to say if a name had been considered at all.

For my little penny worth, and this is only my thoughts..................

Gryphon
[/size]

Why? Well the Eagle is a proud bird that sours high in the sky and does not realy muck about pounding the ground.

The Gryphon was half eagle and half lion so both flew and pounded the ground.
Also in mythology it was usually associated with guarding treasure.
What better treasure to guard than the United Kingdom (and for those who do not know, I am a Scot).

So I believe, Gryphon is what it should be.
Certainly when I get mine finished that is the name it will carry.

 How about Nemesis.
In Greek mythology, Nemesis was the goddess of divine retribution and revenge. All aeroplanes are female of course and, she was one lady you wouldn't mess with!! ;D. I'd also go for Valkyrie but, unfortunately the Yanks stole that one for the  XB-70!

Sticking to mythology for now, how about Typhon. A creature from Greek mythology - the son of Gaia and Tartarus. Known as the "deadliest of all monsters"
Firedrake - a winged, fire breathing dragon from old German (or Norse?) mythology?
Loves JMNs but could never eat a whole one!!

Hellion !! I like that one !

What do you think the pilots/crews would have taken to calling it if its official name was just TSR.2?  I think back to the venerable SBD Dauntless; "Slow But Deadly".  Any thoughts as to what TSR could be turned into?  Just thinking out loud.

from what little i recall from the three books i have (one might be yours Joe) there was/is no official name.

It's pure conjecture.
From my service time, names are what the builders give aircraft and they are rarely used by those operating/flying/working them.

Tornado is/was known as Tonka
Jaguar were known as Desert/arctic/Water Cat
Harrier - useless feckin broken p.o.s
Chinook- sh1thook or wokka

My whiffie TSR2 is American so will get some suitable name to it's era and usage.
too old for a paper round, too young for me pensions, dammit, back to work then!

Given the avionics difficulties it would probably have suffered from, at least in the early days, I could see exasperated crews claiming that TSR.2 stood for "Total System Reset: Squared"

I believe "Chook" is gaining popularity for the Chinook.
