My latest project is a Turboprop P-38 Lightning I'm not sure weather to paint it in the Grey over White or the standard SEA scheme. The aircraft would be used as an armed FAC or SAR escort to suppliment A-1 "Sandies".I'm still working on armement and loadout for the aircraft but what really has me stumped is the color scheme I was hoping that actually seeing bolth schemes on P-38's would help if anyone could come up with something When & if they have the time.Thanks.

At that time all USAF aircraft that were used as unarmed FACs were painted all over gloss gray (not sure which shade thought), with hi-vis markings. Armed FACs like the Misty F-100Fs had the standard SEA 2-tone camo over white.

Since you're wanting to do more of a Sandy type role, I would go w/SEA camo.

If you can find the necessary profile, how about going with the uprated Allisons installed in the F-82?  Or with Griffons turning 5-bladed props (I don't care for contra-props in an intense combat environment because the gearbox isn't as robust - extra gearing of necessity makes for smaller, more delicate gears - and there's less to develop problems).

As luck would have it, I'm in the process of fixing up some blank profiles for Spits & Seafires, so I very well might play with the Griffon on the P-38..., I've also got P-51s and P-82s in the stash, so I'll have a looksee that way as well.

I'm using the academy 1/72 European theater P-38 for the build and I have the Flightpath resin nacelles for the Italeri C-130 there almost a perfect fit the exaust will be where the superchargers were on the origional P-38.I wish I had some C-130 props and spinners,so I may be stuck with the origional kit supplied ones
