The brace of Revell/Monogram P-40's ordered in for this build have enough mould wear that a normal buildout would be nigh unto impossible.

So, it's time to visit the chop shop for rectification.

The preliminary backstory:

Curtiss aircraft finances had been battered during WW-II due to outcompetition by other brands such as Lockheed, Douglas, and Boeing.   As a profit-making measure, the company offered to the buying public demilitarized P-40's as sport planes in the years following the war's terminus.

The first edition was based off the P-40B and featured an open cockpit with cut down spine, de-barbed, and reprofiled wings.   Painted in civilian colors, but with a satin finish, Curtiss hoped to return to profitablilty.   The idea failed.

QuoteThe idea failed.

Wouldn't be if they did it now!

Greg, with 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertibles *averaging* $200,000+ per sale in 2006, old American clay bottles bringing $300 or better, a P-40 Sport wouldn't be much out of the question for $1.5-2M would it.

The particular mould used for these two kits left some 1/8" separating the nose so there'll be some chop/channel/fill and the like.   It's sorta Orange County Choppers meets 49 Mercury lead sled.
