QuoteMay it be a train with spats?
a tank with spats?
a sci fic with spats?

This is a serious question, seriously. ;)
Why cant cars have spats? Imagine a 1930s sports car shaped like a bullet, with aerodynamic spats

Will die without understanding this world.

There was a car like that in 1936 called the Cord Roadster.

Mallard (famous for being Britains & probably the worlds fastest steam train) & the other A4 Locomotives had aerodynamic fairings over the wheels:

Stretching it a bit, I guess you could call the side skirts on tanks spats!

Sci-Fi, Bri's done one of those I think, from 'Things to come'.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ahhh you have a very good memory. It was inspired by the film "Things to Come" and was called the Cabal Bolide Mk. II:

The thread, with backsoptry, is Here. Enjoy!

The whole streamliner era was fantastic wasn't it.   Auburn Speedsters, Wacos, Bugatti Atlantique, etc.    With the whole custom bike craze going on in the US, it does seem somewhat surprising that no one has 'streamlined' a Harley.

I'm trying to figure out how to spat this   :

.....if money only grew on trees............ :(  :(  :(

Spatting that one would be no problem! You just simply remove the bottoms of the hydrofoils and the long bit sticking down from the rudder and the attach the spats of your choice! I've found using drop tanks with half a wheel glued on them is easiest but there's other methods too. Maybe as part of the GB I'll post a tutorial on a couple of ways you can make your own spats.

BdB,

The spats off a Testors PT-20 would likely do well once 'sleekified'.   The problem for this olde builder is that the kit is somewhere around $US80....... :(

On the bright side, spats would improve the look of this 1000%!!!

A tutorial once the GB is under way would be most excellent!

Just as a thought, how about an Allison-engined Mustang in North Africa, the landing gear mechanism is busted but they need every fighter they can get, so they fix the gear down, fit spats, and cover the gear well?

Bikes where a bit slow on the uptake with the whole streamliner thing, they didn't get around to it till the fifties, but when they did, they went into it wholeheartedly:

ONE MAN SPAT!

PS, that Piaggio Pigana is a beauty!

Woah!   The NSU is neat.   It sorta reminds me of some of the early Bonneville Salt Flat racers made from P-38 drop tanks.

Arriving today from Japan in a delightful little cardboard box were some spats   ....3 Ki-36 and 2 D3A1 Vals from Fujimi.   Stateside they're some $15-20 ea, from HLJ, they were less than $3.
