Some more from my own pics:

Zlin Z-XIII

Blade's aerobatic team Extra 300LP

Even Seakings have spats, sort of!

And some other random ones I had stored:

Posted this for Bry a while ago, Aero AT-3G with spats, apropriately registered G-SPAT!

Supermarne Type 224, Spitfire's pre-runner

Yak UT-2
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Almost forgot about these profiles I did base on the Supermarine S.6B, the Supermarine Shrew family:

Shrew Mk.I, with RR Kestrel

Shrew Mk.II

Shrew Mk.III

Sea Shrew Mk.I with Bristol Mercury

I think that's my lot for inspiratin pics now!  To tell you the truth, I wasn't thinking about entering this build, but maybe I'll realise the Shrew, or I've got a Lysander in the stash that's crying to be built, maybe modify it into a P.12???

Yes mossie, come play with us!

Well, keep pushing me & I might just!  I've got plenty of builds I want to get out of the way, but now I've started thinking about the Westland P.12, I've realise, it'll only be a case of remodelling the back end, scratching a rear wing (rather than tail as it was a tandem wing or 'Delanne' layout) & adding a turret from a Lancaster kit.  Actually, I thought it was going to be more than that as I thought it needed a different main wing, but it used the same one as the Lizzie.

I think that would be an awesome project Mossie!

What is a brief history of the Zlin?   At first I thought it was a Caudron racer from the mid-1930's.

large image alert again:

.........ah....spats........

In all reality, the Testor's PT-20 is a kit I've wanted to convert into the above-modified version ever since seeing the real thing.   They are so beautiful.

Well, speaking of spats - point me to a kit and I'll whiff it:

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

A passenger Monomail, and spats to boot!   Now that is luscious!

I thought it was a racer, but apparently the Z-XIII was aimed at the business user.  It was a single seater, with a realativley spacious luggage compartment, designed for 'the businessman in a hurry'.  Bit of a pre-runner to Biz-Jets I guess!  Unfortunately, the type never went into production, presumeably because the market it was aimed at didn't exist, at least in the numbers required.

I've always liked Zlin's, small, good looking aircraft (& often spatted!).  The chin radiator on this one doesn't give it the best looks, but it is very sleek.

My favorite Spatphoto from my youth:

Now that Lindberg are back, hopefully the P-6E gets reissued in 1/48.

Right, this P.12, it was designed as a strafer right?  I'm not sure, but I think I read that the project was canned because the RAF didn't see the need for an aircraft purely designed for strafing.  So, this baby might be able to carry some weapons other than the tiny bombs it was used too, say two 250lb bombs, rocket projectiles or a torpedo with the extra lift it gets from that rear wing?  It'd probably need some extra oomph from a new engine too, about 1100-1200hp, like a Bristol Taurus or maybe a P&W Twin Wasp (some British aircraft got these when production at Bristols got a little tight), but not as much the later Hercules (double the horsepower might tear it apart), although maybe early versions.  Then what scheme would it go in?  Well, I'm thinking Coastal Command or Banff Strike Wing, the ability to carry a fish with the firepower that the turret could bring to bear after a pass could make a mess of shipping.  And a name?  Well I was thinking something Spartan like Lysander, but I've found out it would probably have been named Westland Wendover, after a small town in the Chiltern hills.  Breath iiiiinn....

A Fiat G-91 with non-swept wings and spats in WWII italian facist air force would be a winner ;)
