QuoteWell, speaking of spats - point me to a kit and I'll whiff it:

Greg
Since the Monomail was a direct ancestor of the B-9, whose wing then was used for the Model 247, might the Williams Bros. kit of that give you a very rough starting point?  Mind you, there'd be a lot of plastic surgery and scratchbuilding involved.  Alternatively, does anyone make a B-9 kit?

Well I dont have a Ju 87 in the stash but I do have a Henshel Hs 123 so it looks like my entry  the best I dea I have is adding a spinnered 3 bladed prop an enclosed cockpit and possibly underwing cannon with one of these 3 cammo schemes

I hope you guys like my plan ;)

Im planning something different for this build, spatmans car!

Wow these are some killer ideas!

As to the Monomail kitbash, I think using two Northrop Gamma kits might be an easier starting point with some modifications. My guess is the 247 wing would be too long and wide.

BdB, et. al.

If it weren't beyond my technical skills, it would be fun to stretch a P-26 throughout the fuselage and wings to make a Minimonomail.   The family resemblance is quite there.  Or even a F4B-4 stretch for a Minibimail.

Oh do the thoughts abound!

Cool idea - now if only someone would provide a kit.  Might have to start contacting people.

Chris,

That might end up looking a bit like the real world Hs-123C or HS-123 V6:

or even as a Henschel counter part to the Ar-197:

I'm thinking of doing a sea stuka with the Kreigsmarine.

Just read one of John Baxters books again.

Always a dangerous move. :P
Get this Cheese to sick bay!

How about a monoplane?  Shouldn't be too difficult to graft on a new wing, kind of a German Polikarpov I-16, maybe even Spanish Nationalist markings?

A Stuka would look great with an underslung fish!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yea but I LIKE the 123 as a Double Decker I got to thinking maybe adding a tail gunner or converting it to an inline engine I have a few ideas floating around in my head ;)

QuoteWhat is a brief history of the Zlin?   At first I thought it was a Caudron racer from the mid-1930's.
I thought it was a racer, but apparently the Z-XIII was aimed at the business user.  It was a single seater, with a realativley spacious luggage compartment, designed for 'the businessman in a hurry'.  Bit of a pre-runner to Biz-Jets I guess!  Unfortunately, the type never went into production, presumeably because the market it was aimed at didn't exist, at least in the numbers required.
Coming in bit late here, but the Zlin XIII was designed and built as a private venture 'racer', even though officially designated as a courier aircraft... for long distance/cross-country racing and record setting as opposed to pylon/closed course activities. It had very high performance and was evidently fairly difficult to fly.
The aircraft was flown to France in August 1937 for the Circuit de L'est but the aircraft was not allowed to compete.

I have drawings and a series of photos from Bob Banka's Air Docs if anyone is interested.
The aircraft has been a subject of interest for a few years.

Cheers, Jon

Cool notions.
The 247 wing is a completely different shape with a straight leading edge and a forward swept trailing edge. The Monomail wing has an aft swept leading edge and straight trailing edge, the closest resemblance is the wing of an NAA AT-6/Harvard. The B-9 wing kind of resembled the Monomail wing but not the 247.

The more I look at the 221A dwg. the more I see a Harvard kitbash.
