Today I got something done on my kit, not much so far but its a start.
If the cockpit colors are a bit off keep in mind I have NO reference books on P-40s and I am just guessing on the colors, I just don't build many 'enemy' airplanes!

In the above pic there is also parts of a Monogram Fw 190 I am building alongside the P-40.
By the end of this long weekend I might have both of these models ready for paint. Both these kits have a lot of flash on the small parts that is slowing the construction quite a bit so they may take longer to build than I first thought.

Looks pretty good to me!  The green may be a bit bright, but with the canopy on, it should look terrific.

Notice how much room our Allied pilots had, vs. the cramped german thingies.

Wow that's some great looking detailing there Matrixone! I wouldn't worry too much about getting the cockpit colors right on your P-40. It is a whiff after all!

Thanks Greg and Brian!

Greg,
I had some Zinc Chromate paint so I just used it straight from the bottle, I thought it was rather bright and should have toned it down but with the canopy on it should look O.K.

Brian,
Yes its a what-if so I won't stress out too much about my P-40 cockpit looking a little strange...wait till you see what the exterior is going to look like! (picture evil laugh from Matrixone) :D

You're going to graft on the engine from either an Me-109G or an Fw-190D right?

You've got me in suspense, Matrixone! I can't wait to find out where this is headed!

I had thought about putting the Fw 190 wings on the P-40...but decided against it because I already have a lot of that type of work ahead on my He 100 H-1 project which will involve blending the wings to the fuselage using a lot of putty.

Hey hey!  Another one.

Glad to see this too.

Thanks Daryl and Jeff,

I have glued the fuselage halves to gether and the fit was not as good as I expected so I have already sanded off the first coat of putty and am waiting for the second coat to dry. Also the fit of the nose section (part #13) was poor but might be able ti fix it with some Mr. Surfacer 500. After dry fitting the wings to the fusalage it looks like there will be more putty and sanding in my future.
I am not sure I will be able to save the gun sight, it has heavy flash on it and I nearly broke it while trying to clean it. My model might not have a gun sight when its done.

It might be another week before this one is ready for paint.

Here is an in-progress pic of the P-40 and some of the other models I am building.

Another shot of my production line...the tiny Fw 190 sitting on the P-40 wing is the Eduard 1/144 scale kit, it is one of several small scale models that are being built to be used as background props for my photobase pictures. Other 1/144 kits that will be built are the Ju 52, Me 262B, and another Fw 190.

Wow those are cool Matrixone! You've got quite an assembly line going on there. I always look forward to your updates!

Matrixone,
FYI, there is a late 1970's pressing of this kit in my basement that I just checked and the fit is only marginally better than what you're experiencing.    It's still a pretty bird, isn't it.

And, to my eye, the Monogram FW-190 captures the shape just about right too.

Do I ever like these old kits!
