Thanks Brian, Daryl J, ysi_maniac and Chap!

Daryl J,
I also like these older kits even though they can be a challenge to make them look as nice as the modern kits available today, they are still fun to build. :D

ysi_maniac,
The little Fw 190 is from the Eduard 1/144 scale kit, what fun that will be trying to paint the mottle camouflage on that one! I also will be making a 1/144 scale hanger to match the 190, they will be used strictly as props for my photobase pictures, they will help my pictures look a bit more realistic with a more detailed background.

My P-40 needs to have the wing leading edges smoothed out with some sanding and then I will try to mount the wing to the fuselage and add those plastic shims to fill up those gaps at the wing roots, I will try and take a couple more in-progress pics by next Sunday.

Still filling and sanding the seams on my model, not much else to see right now.

Another pic...

Looks like I should've bought stock in Squadron white.
;)
It's a treat to see your works-in-progress, Matrixone! I'm curious as to what you've got planned for that P-40. My intuition tells me captured bird in Luft-markings.

Brian,

You are right! Captured P-40 it will be...but what makes this a whiff you may ask? My P-40 will have accurate markings for an aircraft that was flown by Zirkus Rosarious (2./Versuchsverband OKL), but no P-40s were flown by that unit. My model might make a few of the JMN Luftwaffe experten on a certain other site go running to their reference books!
I was inspired to use Zirkis Rosarious markings from the book ''On Special Missions'' by Classic Publications, this book covers the German assessment of Allied aircraft, there are many good clear pictures of P-51s, P-47s, Spitfires, and other Allied fighters in German markings.

Ay-hay!   The circus!

Lessee-----ZR+CH?   (Zirkus Rosarius/Curtiss Hawk)  :D

Daryl J,

Close, but not exactly. I need to read ''On Special Missions'' again and find a bogus four letter code to use for the P-40.

I will have fun doing a weather beaten American camo finish on this one as well as showing areas where the Germans made repairs to make it airworthy. If I could just get all those seams filled!

Wow it's gonna be really cool to see this in captured markings, Matrixone! I've got a feeling we're about to see another Class-A model from your amazing workbench!

Thanks once again Brian,

I did not expect to have this much trouble with the seams on this model but I have heard from a few modelers that this Monogram kit has some fit problems here and there, its no real problem but I am looking forward to painting the highly weathered U.A.A.F. camo. Maybe next weekend I can start painting so I can post more interesting in-progress pics. :)

This was the kit that, years ago, I got so frustrated with that I crunched it in my fist (impaling my hand in about a dozen places) because the wing roots just would not meet up with their respective areas on each side of the fuselage.

I recently bought another one of the re-released kit and, seeing that you are managing to work it out on yours, I might just give it a try one more time...
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

JHM,

The Chinese-pressed reissue in our home has terrible fit trouble about the nose.  The wing root, however, is not too bad.   Perhaps the moulds have quite a bit of variation now they are some 43 years old or so.???

More in-progress pics of the P-40.

I'm done with the first coat of olive drab and the first phase of weathering, it looks overdone right now but other phases of the weathering will help blend it in. I am going for a very well used appearence on this model.

My other models were primed today but not painted, I need to re-work a few of the seams on them.  Maybe next weekend I will get to start painting them.

I really like the look of the painting that you've done so far. Very realistic! B)

Look behind you!

Thanks Eddie!

The next update should see this model look much different than it does now.

Somebody enjoys airbrushing and has no small amount of control!    Very nice work M1, very nice indeed.
