Well finally followed up the FD3 with the next one the AW169 (well excluding the Supermarine 559 master that was just for TSRJOE a few years ago)

Here the progress shots of the AW169 i started after Perth this year. Basic assembly is completed ready for primming to check out all those defects we know that are always hidden.

The intake cones, and rocket motor are yet to be fitted to allow for spraying, and defect checking. Then i can see about the undercarriage, Canopy and missiles.

The blue is from an initial primming of the base parts.

Cheers

Hi Thorvic
Looking good- those intakes and the split to two engines/exhausts is visually interesting. B)
Now on this site I get confused, is this either a real unbuilt design or a whif?

It was a real project form the mid 50's to develop a mach 2+ long range interceptor to replace Javelins in the Night/All Weather role and to complement the Lightnings in their short range day role.

Hi Thorvic,  that is one cool project!. what scale is she ? the asymmetric spine was a bit of a surprise! looking forward to seeing more .

Its in 1/72 scale as per most of my builds.

Based upon an Airfix 1/144 Concorde fuselage with the nose section from a scrap Mig25 clone. Inside is a stepped cockpit although not mush detail and the airbrakes have been opened up

In retrospect it may have been better to use tubing for the fuselage with just a Concode tail cone.

Horzontal flying surfaces are scratch built from laminated plastic card to allow the aerofoil section to be created the Fin and ventral fin are from cut down wings in the spares box for quickness.

The engines are from 12mm tubing mated together and the intakes are created from matchbox toom tanks wedged apart with an intake ring from a Mystere IV and a wheel bay from plastic card.

The rocket motor housing is a reshaped droptank.

Still to sort out the Red Deans or Red Hebes for the wing tips, but they come later

After the priming and the surface defects have been dealt with i can then sort out the Undercarriage and clean up the canopies.

Will be finished in the RAF standard fighter scheme with suitable markings for the period.

Cheers

Great job so far Geoff, certainly looks the part!  Just a question with the horizontal tail, the two sides look offset, does the AW.169 have independent stabilisers?

Rat, I'll throw my tupence worth in & say with the the straight wing it looks more like an Il-28, just to stir things up a bit!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Nope thats just the tails swinging down as the plastercine holding them in place wasn't that tacky  .

Only pinned in position for the Photo, will be stuck after the things been painted.

This is phenomenal and you make it look so easy!!!

Never heard of this "real" concept before, thanks for sharing.  That single intake-to-twinned-exhausts style is a sensational look.

Can't wait to see her all polished up and painted in her final glory.
