JHM has suggested that, if no-one objects, this could be entered as a late entry in the Phoenix Build so, hoping that no-one does, here's the background and a few pictures.

This is a conversion of the 1/72 A Model MiG AT trainer into the proposed but never built MiG AS light fighter, made by grafting on the cockpit and nose of an old Matchbox Hawk 200.

If you've read the thread on the Workbench area you'll already know that the model was originally built for the Nationals/Scale Modelworld two years ago but wasn't finished in time. Partly because the kit is so poor (over engineered, generally poor fit, most small parts too thick, prominent mould lines), partly because I found my chosen paint scheme uninspiring and partly because initial painting showed a reasonable amount of filling and sanding still to do, I lost enthusiasm and put it to one side. For two years.

It re-emerged (minus one main U/C leg, half the nose U/C leg, and various probes and aerials) when the recent house move forced me to sort and pack my unbuilt and half built kits (house moves are not all bad news for modelling!), and I realised that I'd given up when most of the really hard, tedious work had already been done.

After further sanding and the rebuilding and replacement of the missing U/C components from plastic rod and the spares box

Ready for Klear and decal application.

All I have to do now is finish it by 30 June - - -

A truly gorgeous piece of work, sir.  Well worth the wait 'til inspiration stuck you again.

Finished. And before the deadline, which makes a pleasant change.   :D  (My last completed model was finished in the hotel room the night before the UK 2006 Nationals  ^_^ )

The decals are for Azerbaijan and come from a Linden Hill sheet for the L-39 Albatros.

A very nice finish
