So a reasonable choice would be 1/48 scale Beaver floats ? Is there others aircrafts which have floats close in size from a Beaver ?
I was looking at all up weights of the Spad again and the scout version is about 13,500 lbs which puts it in the same ball park as an Antonov An-2, and you can buy a 1/72 An-2 on floats:

Or there's this conversion for a 1/48 Wildcat floatplane

Merci very much!!
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Is that your model Panzer?  Very nicely done

Just a question (sorry for the off-topic)
Is it just me, or does Hannants refuse to send anything below a 30 pounds order ? Imean, until you haven't reached  a 30 pound order, they can't send anything to you ?  (I understood its because of packaging costs...)

That's about it Archie,  it's the only thing I don't like about Hannants

I like the Skyraider SAR concept, but why bother with twin floats and struts etc?  Why not go for something along the lines of the Grumman J2F/OA-12 Duck:

This sort of robust float would be just the thing on a SAR Skyraider - at leats that's what I think.

BTW, there are a number of kits (in various scales) of the Duck available in case you want to use it for parts.

Greg

With the 'boxy' sides of the Spad it might just work too.  With a float about 3'-6" wide it would have to be about 55 feet long, there abouts.

QuoteI've finally decided that it would be another T-56 Skyraider  ;)  4900 hp sounds enough, and floats would coolness to the design...

Got another idea... while building my Skyraider I've noticed a kind of "door" between the wings and below the fuselage. This Skyraider on floats will be a SAR machine. I could use this door as a compartement for the lost pilots picked up in the water... then I could dig two windows (instead of the airbrakes) on the side of the fuselage... a three-seat Skyraider!

Hmmm R-4360 Skyraider sounds like Martin AM-1 Mauler for me  ;)  Cool idea!

We are currently building a whole lineage of Spads... R-3350, R-4360, Skyshark (= XT-38) then my T-56 machine...
I'm surprised no one's played with a Martin Mercury, the proposed COD version of the Mauler, as a SAR bird. :D

I remember seeing some pics of this project... you're right, such machine on floats would be an impressive SAR aircraft... in fact it would truly be  a scaled-up Beaver!  :o

A Skyraider with the "duck" treatment would be something, but beware of propeller clearance with the central float...

HMMMMMM how about slightly shorter blades but a Contra rotating prop to deal with Archies Prop clearence observation???

That XJL-1 reminds me sort of a AT-6 Texan on floats

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
