QuoteGeneral Dynamics 200 (this one need a better name... any idea ?) for air superiority
FV-13 (or VF-13)?

(The designation "F-13" seems to have been skipped.)
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

Brilliant! VF-13 Hammer sounds good no ?
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I "borrowed" the designation YF-13 for my Secret Santa project, the YF-13 "Hammer".

Arse, feck, twiglets! (@Shas) I knew i have seem this one before... I also used the F-13 designation for my CL-1200 Lancer, 14 months ago
Well, I'll try F-19 or F-24 next time...  well, F-19 sounds cool...

According to this marvellous board...
QuoteV-19A: Designation reserved for Navy in 1977 and cancelled in 1980; no details available

Interestingly, it's just like F-19 for USAF...  General Dynamics FV-19A sounds good no ?

   If it's a V aircraft. VF-19 if it's an F aircraft.

Is AV-8 a "V' or an "A"?

It's actually incorrect. It definitely isn't based on the V-8 design. Should have been VA-8 if anything. There rules, not mine. Now, it doesn't seem to matter tho.

Considering that the rockwell project was dubbed XFV-12, the name would be
FV-13 or FV-19. I've always thought that the Harrier II was in fact the A-8 IHMO..

General Dynamics FV-13 would be more logical (just after Rockwell XFV-12, and before the Tomcat)

Great news! This General dynamics
(hell, my brain has decided three days ago that this design was a Grumman.
GE-NE-RAL DY-NA-MICS type 200  :banghead: )
... so my type 200 will be an Italian Navy machine. I've found a nice set of decals left by a TAV-8B (its USMC decals went to the Skyraider II)

Can you imagine a type 200 (we still need a better name...) taking-off from the Cavour ?

It should be AV-6B/C, being a development of the Kestrel (V-6, I think it was AV-6). Then someone decided to put the operational type in the 'attack' series, hence A-8, which doesn't feature any more, but someone else pointed out that it was a V/STOL type, and added the 'V'. The fact that it was now in conflict with the Fleep was cunningly ignored - that ain't new, anyhow.

The 'V' designator is equivalent to the 'H' for helicopters, the (unused) 'S' for spaceplanes and the 'Z' for airships which isn't much used. So, FV-19 would be correct.

http://www.designation-systems.net/usmilav/index.html has a comprehensive explanation of the system and its' anomalies, which are many.

QuoteAs for a kit the gripen is not soo good the blended wing to fuselage makes it pretty useless for this job. Actually a Mirage III/2000 might do the trick better as the wings are similar and the back ends pretty good for the shape. obviously the intakes need to be revised Tornado/cut down F-14 and blended into the fuselage.
For the Fwd fuselage look at filling in the Mirage cockpit and raising it up as was done on the harrier to create the Sea Harrier.

I have to agree...  I wanted to build it from a Grippen, but, thanks to the Murphy law  <_< , there's was none available at the shop. So I've bought a Mirage 2000, and agree that its a better base to start with.
Even better, I'll used its decals to complete the Mako
So let's go for a Mirage-based  type 200...

So I've started building it this afternoon. Heck, the 2000 is now totally unrecognizable, I've cut a lot of plastic... pics to come soon!

Great!!!

I'm only starting to research and collect data for mine.

OK, I know I can't stop scratchbuilding. Someday, I will build something OOB....

Don't you want building a Rockwell XFV-12 ?  ;)  In this case, Anigrand has a resin kit of it (albeit I know you prefer modelling from cardboard, yum!)

Well the 2000 has got the right wing shape just needs its trailing edge tapering in more to match the plan and the central fuselage nicely matches the drawings. The rear fuselage really needs an extention however to create the space for the down.

Definately needs a fuselage plug to lengthen it and allow the for the lift engines. The Cockpit is the real pain in the arse however as its somewhat higher with a new canopy (more Sea Harrier in style - AV-8B would have been ideal if it wasn't bulged - DOH).

Don't forget to offset the nose wheel leg and its bay !!!. A blunt drop tank might do for the nose cone in place of the nice pointy mirage one (that can then be used elsewhere)

Intakes are probably best scratch built although a Tornado's might be adapted and lengthened. Then its a case of plenty PSR with a touch of milliput to belend it all together

(Milliput is a two part modelling putty thats mixed together and when cured for 24 hours sets rock hard - its handy for scratch builing in that when first applied it can be shaped and moulded using a wet finger as water can be used as thinner - the other key aspect is that its does not react with the plastic as model fillers do so can be used to build up bigger areas - too much plastic filler and the plastic beneath goes soft and eaten away !!)
