Hello!

I'm seeking a list of combat aircrafts used by USMC aviation. I more or less know what "modern" (= jet aircrafts) they used, but I've no idea about their oder of battle circa 1955...

"Modern" aircrafts

- A-4 Skyhawk
- A-6 Intruder
- AV-8B Harrier
- F-35
- Phantom
- Hornet.

I know the service started to used the Skyhawk circa 1956. What early jets and piston-powered aircrafts did they used before the Scooter ?
When was the last Skyraider withdrawn from USMC use ?

I'm a bit confused...

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

The USMC uses almost every type the USN uses, with the exception of dedicated interceptors (fleet defense fighters) like the F-14 (before they turned it into a bomb truck).  I'm not sure when the last Spad was retired, but I know they were using them into at least the late 1960s or early 1970s, along with the Navy.

They did not use the A-7.

I think they were close enought to getting the F-14 that one actually had sqn markings on it right before the plug got pulled.

That's my understanding, too.  I know I've seen the intended patch for the pilots, the standard Tomcat mascot in Marine dress blues.  'Twould be just the thing to use on a base for displaying a Corps Tomcat.  I suspect the Corps interest in the Tomcat waned after Congress forced the USN to forego developing the air-to-ground potential that'd been demonstrated on one of the prototypes (12x 500 lb. bombs).

I'm prety sure the USMC flew the A-1 and the F4D-1 as well as the F8U-1/-2 and the FJ-2/-3/-4 series.  Earlier, I know they flew variants of the Corsair well after WW II (where they were the first operational users).

I've always figured that a USMC Douglas A-26 Invader would be cool, maybe to replace Tigercats in the night interdiction mission, so all over black or midnight blue: Korea, Vietnam or elsewhere. I know that the USN had some Invaders for target towing and designated them appropriately, but for a combat role they'd probably be called DB-3 - as the Navy had a few Boston/Havocs and called them DB-2s (I think).

Anyone made a USMC Invader?

Whatever.

One unit of the USMC used 2-seat TA-7Cs....can't remember precisely.

Don't forget F9F Panthers, and Banshees too.
And the North American navalised Sabre, the Fury.

In fact, a version of the SabreDog in USMC colours would be attractive.
The USMC were the sole users of the AU-1 Corsair (apart from a few supplied to France).

USMC....wouldn't an F-104 look nice

Though I do not think the Marines would like an aircraft that was a poor performer in a dogfight!

Nightfighter and later ECM platform. Marines used them in Glos sea blue and the later grey/white.

The Jarheads most definitely flew the A-1, the Ford, and the entire Crusader series in great numbers.  The naval infantry (man, do they hate that term!) were the only users of the AU-1 Corsair (other than the French, but we don't like them, so it doesn't count).
