Seen Over Your House Today

There was a bit of a flap in the news this past Sunday.  Some of the natives got restless because a funny-looking C-130 flew over the beach, and no one could tell what it was, or where it had come from.  A photographer with better equipment than me snagged a couple of stills, and the news desk at WTKR asked if anyone in their audience could identify the bird.  I thought it looked familiar, so I combed through my pix from Oceana last year and found one I had taken, which I forwarded on to the station with a brief explanatory note.



It was and MC-130P Combat Shadow, a spec ops support version operated by a unit from Hurlburt Field in Florida.  Last night, the station revealed that the Air Force called them to report that it was their bird, working an exercise with a SEAL unit based in Virginia Beach.

G20 wrap-up - after several days of monitoring I have _never_ hrd so many comms - two scanners were not nearly enough to keep up with all the simulataneous traffic. F-15Cs on the CAP intercepted a Mooney that busted the TFR and escorted it down in West Virginia. I caught a visual of an Eagle just after AF1 departed.

Utter crap photos, but getting closer was not a real option; these really were "over the house"

Didn't see it in person, but watched it on the TV news, the Pope came into town today on an Alitalia jet (poor guy, flying Alitalia!). Looked like an A319 to me.

Managed to snap the mystery helicopter!  But it was too far away!   I think it's a Puma & probably a Bristows machine.  This may not be my mystery machine, I thought it was CHC.  Need a better zoom....

Five minutes ago I was sitting quietly working on model number 3 for the SIG dispaly at Telford. Heard an engine, looked up and this guy was passing the window. Fortunately he did an orbit which brought him, literally, over the house.
I believe he is normally based at Glasgow.

A white-coloured DC-10 flew low enough that I can see it while I was waiting for a cab to pick me up in order to go to work.

Saw what looked suspiciously like a Fokker 50 climbing out of the local airport today. Kind of unusual as I've never seen one in this neck of the woods before.

The police were out today flying their EC 135 around over town too.
