Hi Ian
we had one do something like that over our house a few years back, a USAF C-130 and I rang Leeming to complain about it because he was doing very tight orbits at about 60 degree wing down and approx 150ft high, he even made the local paper the next day.

ps, we had a Chinook over low today, must of been one of the Princes  ;D

Has anyone here ever seen a C-130 pulling a high-g, 180deg starboard turn at approx 150ft/50m OVER THEIR HOUSE ??

No ?

Well it happened around 1445 (local) today. Even Mrs. Hunter-Gatherer seemed impressed. Cannot imagine why, we are certainly not in a designated low-flying area, in fact I'd be willing to bet that the Air Traffic Controllers at RAF Woodvale, just 3Km from our house were seriously unimpressed !!

Ian

Maybe the crew saw one of your creations and had to turn quickly to get a better look...

Seen over my house today, and everyone elses in the UK.......................NOTHING!

There ain't no traffic 'cos NATS closed the Uk airspace.

I did, two gliders flying over Wolds Gliding Club, the first of the year.  I've been threatening it, but I should be getting a couple of lessons in soon, got some vouchers for my birthday.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I heard a low-flying helicopter at lunchtime today, so there's something flying. Might have been the local police bird.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Helicopters are okay to fly & gliders, but everything else is grounded.  I've been talking to the missus, she's a branch manager for a travel agent.  She said the situation is worse for the UK than it was in 9/11, flights were prevented to & from the US then, but were unaffected elsewhere.  Now, it's a total lockdown & it'll probably increase to most of Europe over the next day or so.  They've been fairly lucky, they've got one customer who's affected & a couple of staff who are due to come home from a business trip at the weekend that may or may not be affected.  Other places are not so lucky.

It all depends on what happens with this volcano too.  If it keeps on spewing, or sets off others in the region, the situation could get much worse.

Why doesn't it affect helicopters?  The cloud is around three miles up & there's nothing to stop it coming down, that's why other aircraft have been grounded.  Gliders I can understand, no engine parts that can be ripped apart by the pumice, but this doesn't apply to whirlybirds.  If it's a minimum safe height, than why are GA aircraft affected?

Just saw an all black Kiowa helo go racing by out back.  Windows were blacked out too...wonder who was aboard?

Had a helo go buzzing overhead at about 19:00 but was only about 500ft up so I guess he got special permission. Although it's been really strange not seeing anything overhead today

Had the window open for some air while I painted the bugs and could hear 3 E-2s go over.  Love the sound of the twin turboprops

Jaybee,

Not so down here.

Two GA aircraft flew up the Severn this afternoon around 1300Z, one a light twin, Seneca V perhaps at around 1000 ft, and the other a PA28 around 2000 ft. Both were moving on a bit, and on the same heading, direct for Staverton, so something's able to fly at least.

Yes today has been a bit different. I was looking at the radar screens through in the ops room and there were lots of 7000 squawks (that indicates GA VFR traffic).
However Glasgow and Prestwick were getting some bigger stuff moving.
The one of Prestwick that amused me was the Antonov 124 of Volga-Dniper airways, going from Prestwick to Marseilles.
They routed out over Belfast then west to just short of mid Atlantic (024W) then South and then East into Spanish airspace. All just to avoid a bit of dust.
Talk about a long way for a shortcut
