BBMF Dakota was displaying at the village fete yesterday - several VERY low and VERY fast (for a Dak) passes straight over the house :D

The Clipper Round the World Yacht race returned back to Hull yesterday.  There were the boats of course, but I also saw a total of six helicopters.  A Squirrel TV bird, Robinson R44, Alouette II, a RAF Sea King & two RN Lynxes of the Black Cats display team.

Sea King:

Black Cats, you can just about make the low-ish viz artwork on the lead Lynx, it kind of merges in & the low light didn't help.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

While out in the yard at work today (very near to Battersea heliport) I saw a sea king fly over....dark grey,it would appear, colours with sponsons and not the small inflation bags.....had a thimble radar bump on spine behind the rotor and a similar one like a wart on its nose...dunno nationality....could be anyone as its airshow season......

Sounds like one of the German Navy Seaking Mk.41's:

One was on the static display at RIAT last weekend. Very odd shaped radome, and why do they need two of them anyway?

Interestingly the RAF Merlins have sprouted odd shaped radomes too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The radome on the See Thing is ASM targeting.  Sea Skua?  Dunno what they use.

The beak on the Merlin shows that it is one of the Fin machines emergency purchased by the UK.  The beak holds a weather radar above a staring FLIR used for nav.  Both IIRC........

Haha.....good one ! Both lovely examples, if you ask me !  I think the RAF should use yellow Sea Kings forever.....they've got to be just as ( if not moreso ) recognizable to Joe Public as the Red Arrows !

In my world, I saw a Herc cruising around yeasterday. It was follwong the cloud line so I thought it might be a weather bird from NY, but it dropped lower once and id definately had underwing tanks. Also saw one of those MD500 NOTAR birds....wicked cool sound !

Yes it's got a very distinctive sound hasn't it --- the Calgary Police Force has one which they said when they got it that it was very quiet, only problem is they used it mostly at night --- right when no other helicopter was flying -- everyone knew when it was in the area.
