QuoteI think there are a few left flying, as Beech pulled the plug on the Starship a few years ago, all the aircraft were recalled when the company ceased supporting the type.  A stubborn owner or two is keeping the type going IIRC.
Ah, one of the lergest questions on general aviation in my head. Why were all those magnificent planes recalled to be scrapped? :( Why did beech pull the plug?

Beech's story was that they sold so few that it wasn't economical for them to support the Starship with spares & maintainance, so they recalled it & the FAA withdrew it's certification.  Some say there must be other reasons behind the decision (I don't know what those might be) as Beech were very aggressive in trying to recall the Starship from those owners that were keen to keep it flying, with support from sources other than Beech.

Saw a few types while at our York campus, saw a couple of RAF Tucano's (& heard some more, the Tuc has a pretty distinctive sound), a British Army Lynx & yellow painted GA type that I couldn't identify.  On the drive home, I saw a Glider cast of it's tow line & fly straight other the car, I pass Pocklington Gliding Club (ex-WWII bomber station RAF Pocklington) on the drive back home.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I think Beech management sees them as an expensive embarrassment that they'd just as soon have everyone forget about, so they're trying their best to kill it.  My understanding is not one of them wsa sold for anywhere near what the real cost was to Beech.  There have been rumors that the basic layout was once intended for the Learfan II and that Linden Blue took the info with him to Beech when he changed company presidencies, but it appears to have bit them badly (certainly the folks I knew there didn't think highly of the effort).  Mind you, I'm in no way enamored of Beech/Raytheon Aircraft's management style (30's management techniques just plain don't work today).  You really want to annoy some folks there, ask what happened to the "Hawker Horizon" and why it seems to have disappeared.

MiG-29 this morning, either a Slovak or Hungarian heading home from this weekend's airshow.

A fair distance from where I was standing, but still loud as hell and smoking like a chimney!

RE Blacklion's post, what appeared to be an Avanti flew right over me about ten minutes ago, enroute to KPIT - noisy bugger, if that is what it was , been ages since I've seen one. Quite the coincidence, two whiffers seeing these unusual types in short order!

Yep, I think the Sea King ASaC bird(s) are flying out of Kinloss, given the number of times I've seen one around here the last week. Also got a Falcon 20, and apparently some Saudi Tornadoes, though I'm blowed if I can tell the difference between them and the British ones.

Saw a desert camo'd Hercules at Lossie last week, too. Most unusual.

The sand/brown/green camo is the giveaway!  They've been up in Scotland for a joint exercise - there's some pics over on Britmodeler.
