Though it's a bit of a slap in the face for the Poor Old 'Toom...
You mean the Phenomenal Hideous And Noisy Total Obliteration Machine?  ;D  ;D .I'd respectfully disagree because, there was a certain beauty in the ugliness of the Phantom .Something the toy F-35 can never claim! ;)  ;D

Quote from: Nick on June 18, 2024, 10:09:17 AMIf anyone is near Carlisle they should be alert to Chinooks, Apache and Cougars flying out of Carlisle Airport. The Netherlands Army have invaded for their regular joint training exercises over Spadeadam and the North West.
How else will they get to learn about flying around big hills?  ;D
Invade Bavaria?

They already have. The Euro's are on

We're under the path at KCMH so I hear commuters and airliners often, but I heard something a bit different today.  Stuck my head out and, yep, a C-17.  Might have gotten a picture but it would have been crap.

Not over my house, on a weekend break in the Lake District. Three Wokkas (could be a pub name):

Got very lucky, just arrived at the guest house and taking a pic of the view from the window when these three popped around the corner to say hello.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Spent a few days in a house (mansion...) just north of RAF Scampton, which is meant to be closed, but every day a couple of Junos or Jupiter training choppers came down the 'glide slope' there. I wasn't close enough to see if they actually landed, but they got pretty close.

I did sense the sound of four Merlins every now and then though......................  ;)

And back again, just one this time. They're Royal Netherlands Air Force CH-47Fs, based at RAF Spadeadam and taking advantage of 3D terrain compared to 2D back home.  ;)

Having lived on the northern edge of the Lake District for over 60years, I ought to recognise those pictures..........but don't.  Where are you staying, please?

Ambleside, Lake Road.  I believe the largest hill in the images is Loughrig Fell.

They'd have to be absolute wizards at using every little feature to mask their approach! ;D  ;)
