A V-22 Osprey tracking down the coastline in Moss Beach, CA.  Even my wife noticed it, asking what that weird looking helicopter was.  Seemed to be painted in overall grey.

And it turns out the choppers I saw were part of a SAR exercise....know anything Ian?

Usual (well, fairly) Tucanos over York Uni.  Treated to two classic vehicles on the way home, a WWII Jeep that was more or less on the site of RAF Pocklington (a WWII bomber station, home to a glider club & industrial estate with vestiges of the old runway) so kind of a trip back in time.

The other was a Green Goddess fire engine, based on the Bedford RL truck that dates from the 1950's.  Believe it or not, the MoD still had nearly a thousand of these until a few years ago, part of a military back up to the civillian fire brigades.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Can anyone identify this one?  I was out apartment hunting over the weekend when I spotted this off in the distance, heading into PHF.  I apologize for the lousy pic, but my camera only zooms to 5x, and I had to blow it way up just to get this amount of detail.  It looks like it's got four engines, and the paint scheme resembles a United bird I spotted at CLT last year.

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Tucanos again, but on the way to work for a change.  First one came over the road just in front of the van & fairly low, I spotted it's lights first in the dull morning light.  Second one about ten minutes later, a bit further in front of the van but also low, possibly the same aircraft.

Yesterday was like a bad TV movie.
First a pair of Chinooks going one way and doing several loops over central London (probably sightseeing!).
Then it was a pair of Apaches going the other way quite low and fast.
Finally an Army Lynx followed the Chinooks.

All this went by in the space of an hour. Hollywood could have used it for background shots and claimed it was all the same aircraft! ;D :banghead:

And on the way home a strange light in the sky flying over the Yorkshire Wolds.... cue X-Files music.... :dalek:

Couldn't identify it.  Thought it was the glow from a hot air balloon at first, but it was getting very dark by then so it's unlikely one would have been flying.  Then I thought it must be a slow flying aircraft, a microlight maybe, but I wound down the van window to try to make out any sound, nothing. Very odd.

Bad movie?  I watched 'Stealth Fighter' a few weeks ago on Sky & if it had been about helicopters I'm sure that's the footage it would have used.  Saying that, since I couldn't bare to watch past the first five minutes I wouldn't have been suprised to see them passed off as fighters.  I kind of guessed what I was in for when I saw it starred Ice T & Erika Eleniak, it didn't disapoint!!!

Sounds like more helicopters than we have in Afghanistan.......
