most unusually on saturday lunchtime.....

RAF chinook from odiham. did a high level approach, disappeared for a couple of hours and
then came back for another approach. it may have been visiting coventry i guess to
pick up some urgently needed cargo as i wasn't aware that they did training flights at
weekends.

Saw a Chin-uk myself Trev, but forgot to mention it.  Was last first Thursday, heard the distant wokka-wokka & just managed to make out a Chinook quite a way out.  Seemed to be follwing the same path as the Puma from the following week.

Saw my old SAR Sea King mate again on Saturday, along with multiple sitings of 'Oscar 99', the Humberside Police MD902.  Interestingly, there was a piece in the local paper that mentioned the MD902 had been updated with some cameras that could read a number plate from seven miles away, day or night & were the first force to have such technology.  You'll never know they're there, Big Brother is watching you......
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Its not the workbench that makes the model, it is the modeler at the workbench.

Captain Canada

The PM was in town again on Friday, so of course I had to go over to the airport. It's only about 1km from my place, so technically this would have flown over my house....

This cargo Caravan was there as well :

It's almost a daily occurrence for me, but I see KC-135's on approach to Selfridge just to my north.

Every few days I see the base's CH-47's, HH-65's, and the MI National Guard UH-60's fly by.  Well, not really see them, but hear them.

Then there's the incessant traffic into Oakland International Airport to my west.  Yesterday I saw a 757 inbound (usually see Citations, Learjets, 737's, and Gulfstreams).
I exist to pi$$ others off!!!

Saw a Lynx AH.7 over York as I was walking down Gillygate on my lunch.

Saw the Red Arrows fly over the Peak District on Friday night. :tornado:

I was driving near Warslow and Wetton when I spotted a single Hawk out the corner of my eye. A quick double-take showed me the 4 Hawks in front of him and then another 4 Hawks in line in front of them!
Must have been a training flight before a weekend off, or has the airshow season kicked off already?

Nick,

At this time of year they're often at Akrotiri working up their routine for the season. Perhaps they're just back and are memorising the UK geography again.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

On UKAR last week there were a lot of threads showing the Reds displaying over airfields all over the UK.  My completely uninformed guess is that, back from Cyprus, they are were practicing their routine over different airfields, to get used to the minor variations in the routine that different airbases require.  And the weather was unseasonably nice, so they could do it.

Saw a Cessna today

Think i saw a Robinson last week...

And some 777s. Mostly B777-300ERs, but also a single B777-200LR and a couple of B777-200ERs. All of them either Emirates (Dubai - Scotland), Japan Airlines (Japan - Paris/Amsterdam), All Nippon Airlines (Japan - Paris/Amsterdam), KLM (Amsterdam - Japan) or Air France (Paris - Japan).

On a second note, the Danish military is short on cash, and as a result there will be no new Gripens this year  nor will there be any further ships, F-16s will be parked. All that is nothing though, compared to the following:

The airshow has been cancelled :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Its happening in other places as well - I know of cases where all maintenance work (including on parts already being worked on) has been order to be halted by Air Forces due to budget freezes!

The Danish military has spent their money in Afganistan though, and the money put aside for the purchase of new fighters is too little, as the AF was busy trying to convince everybody that the JSF would cost half the price of what it does...

While it's not exactly my house, I did see a Chinnok from the window in my hospital window in Oxford yesterday. Think it was headed for Odiham judging by the track it was on.
