Saw a Pair of Tornados this morning,  one of which given the time and place may well have been the one that crashed shortly before 12, sadly the crew were both killed.

Hadn't heard anything about a crash.  Sorry to here that :(

Despite my moaning earlier, I finally came up trumps, first with a Nimrod as I took a walk into town.  It was at medium altitude & I could clearly make out the tanks & MAD Stinger, so it wasn't one of the R.1's from nearby(ish) Waddington.  Later on I saw a Puma/Cougar in what appeared to be civvy colours, although it could be arriving for the Waddo show at the weekend.  Which is probably why there's been a lot of activity over the past few days.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Simon, there's 8 F-15s from Lakenheath at Conningsby this week, which is probly the reason for all the jet noise.  I've been hearing it too, well into the evening.  Unfortunately sat at home recovering I am unable to get to either Waddo or CBY :(

I'm missing Waddo too.  Unfortunately, it tends to be in the same week as my wedding anniversary.  The missus said it was no problem that instead of spending the weekend away, we could go to Waddington, it was absolutely fine....  Fallen into that trap too many times....!!!!

If she sees this my b******s are for the knife..... ;)

This week was quite eventful. We booked a house out by the west coast, to go surfing and waterskiing:
1x Luftwaffe Tornado
2x F-16 in formation
1x F-16 alone
1x Lynx

In front of the house was a proppeller that a fisher had dumped, after it has snagged a net. I identified it as the prop of an RAF Bleinheim that was shot down in the area.

Today i arrived home, and i saw a pair of autogyro, and an EC-155 hovering over the nearby lake.

Hardly saw any military stuff whilst on our hols in the Balck Forest. Spent a very nice day walking around a town close to where we were staying called Schiltach - think it was the Monday, as we walked out of the car park two Tornados roared through the valley. Couldn't see whether they were German of British. Very smokey and very loud

We we're staying just northeast of Wolfach in a deep valley. On the previous Saturday or Sunday there was a single engined lightplane - looking suspiciously like a Mustang but probably not ! - rolling and looping on the west side of the valley, therefore only properly visible as it popped over the top of the hill, very impressive but hard to ID even wearing strong polarised shades

On the second stage of the drive home we stopped as we always do on the E411 at Wanlin services - I'm guessing Nils will be familier with this one (it's shaped like a Wigwam !). Anyhoos we clambered out of the air-conditioning into a 30deg wall of heat, just as two Mirage F-1's screamed over (about 3000ft) heading for Florennes. Not three minutes later two of the resident F-16's roared eastward at approx 1000ft evidently using the services as a way point as they both made a slight course change and throttled-up as they passed.

And that was it !

This weekend there were all sorts of festivities for the 4th, and there was much air traffic around my neighborhood.  Before I went to bed Saturday afternoon (night shift, remember?), I snapped a couple of a Robinson helo cruising over the waterfront (and my house).

I woke up, insomniac, at about 1430, and decided to walk about the neighborhood for a bit to tire myself out.  I didn't bring my camera, because this wasn't a sightseeing trip.  You're going to kill me.

I heard the unmistakable sound of piston fighter engines, and looked up just in time to see a P-51D, a P-40 and an F4U cruising overhead in a stretched out echelon formation.  They made four or five orbits of the neighborhood before zipping east.  My roommate was at the beach, and he reported later that they had buzzed the oceanfront at treetop height.  What a show!

Looked into it but everywhere was already booked up. :(  Still, had a lovely time in Harrogate without XH558...  Didn't get chance to post Nev, but I eventually spotted a Tonka just poking out between the houses, not as common a site around here as it once was.  Still could have been F-15's around though, especially the high level formation I saw.

Spotted a few while in Harrogate, saw one of Yorkshire Air Ambulances MD902's & at least one Jet Ranger kept popping over.  Had my camera with me, but never had a clear enough shot.
