Ian the Kiwi Herder

Strangest thing yesterday at 1400ish a Huey went past at around 2000ft following the coastline from north to to south. Very strange as I realised as I was watching it, that I'd never seen a Huey flying before..... ever !
Also strange because it appeared to be a short fuselage version (B or C).

Too hazy to make out any detail whatsoever.

This one Ian?  It's a privately owned aircraft, I snapped it at the Yorkshire Airshow year before last.  It displays to Ride of the Valkyries, complete with MG special effects!  I might have some more pics of it somewhere.  Think this is a UH-1H though.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Both my sons spotted a formation of 8 HIND Helicopters flying over Croydon this afternoon. I didn't :banghead:

I have just sent the MOD a FoIA request to find out what they were doing...

That would be the Polish AF Scorpion Team, flying 4 Hinds  4 for display, possibly 3 for backup (maybe one of those for solo) and the 4th for static display

Wish I could've got a better shot - this was a spur of the moment type shot

Thanks for the info.

I am just cross I didn't see them...two years ago my boys spotted a MV22 flying, which I denounced as 'rubbish of course you didn't' only to see it mentioned on the news that night!  :banghead:

Captain Canada

It's Bayfest weekend here in Sarnia. Trews, Counting Crows, STP, Kiss.....so there's been lots of biz jet action at the local airport. Saw a Falcon 900, Citation and a Challenger yesterday. No camera, tho.....

Saw a shape in the sky a couple of days ago that I though was just one of the regular Austrian Airlines Dash 8s coming into the local airport, but it didn't sound quite right.

Took a second look and was pretty sure it was actually a Dornier 328. First time I've ever seen one if that's actually what it was.

Crop dusting season is here, one little bright yellow one flew right over the house yesterday, not sure of the make and it was gone before I could grab the camera.

The winds were favorable for aircraft being close at hand while in the pattern yesterday.

One last one while out on a stroll...

Its not the workbench that makes the model, it is the modeler at the workbench.

Yeah, they're around here, too.  I was awakened by the sound of a radial engine this A. M. (just before 0600, local time and too damn' early on a Sunday!) as they did their usual air show.  I watched as one did an eight-point roll an climb out, and later did a vertical roll on climb out.  Entertaining as usual, but a wee bit early for me to think about camera . . .

Also, on the way home from church, we watched a C-17 do a "Baghdad Approach" to Dover.

The RNAS Yeovilton air show was yesterday, and I went along with my brother and parents. The day could have gone a lot better, as the weather was crap, and the Vulcan didn't fly due to a brake system hydraulics problem. :( The low cloud meant that all the flying displays were severely curtailed - the Red Arrows appeared, did a few formation passes and then buggered off again, and the Frecce Tricolori didn't get off the ground. The Tiffies didn't fly either, much to my annoyance. However, the Armee de l'Air put on a good show, the pilot throwing his Rafale around in spectacular fashion at a few hundred feet. If you've ever seen a grand prix or the like, where a driver takes a corner too fast and only just hangs on through the bend, you'll be able to imagine what it was like - it was like the Rafale was scrabbling to find traction as it turned! Most impressive - it would have been nice to see what the Tiffie could have done to match it.

The other highlight for me was seeing the De Havilland Sea Vixen fly. What a glorious beast of an aircraft, and the noise was wonderful. The howl of twin Avons is something that has to be experienced.

The Belgian and Dutch air forces each brought their very attractive display F-16s, in grey and orange respectively. Didn't get any pics, but they did very well given the poor conditions. The Dutch AF was out in force, with no less than six Vipers present! Also there were two Spanish Harriers, a Portuguese Lynx, and the Royal Jordanian Air Force were present with their Silver Falcons display team, flying four Extra 300s. Again, the low cloud meant their display was sadly reduced from what should have been something spectacular.

Anyway, pics:

The ultra-sexy Rafale. I just wish the French would use retractable IFR probes.

The hulking beast that is the Sea Vixen. Sorry about the poor quality.

XH558, with her socks on. She was parked on the far side of the airfield, but after they announced she wasn't flying, they towed her over to the crowd line for people to have a close-up look.

MFG 3 Breguet Atlantic "Graf Zeppelin".

French Hawkeye.

Sea Kings galore!

The Frecce Tricolori spent the day on the ground.

Gerald, great pics, especially that EC-135 among the masts!

Alun, lovely pics of the Sea Vixen & XH-588 particularly.  I'm really hoping to see XH-588 this year, although I missed my closest show Waddington, although she didn't fly due to an administritive cock-up.  I might try & get down to RIAT at the weekend (albeit a 7 hour round trip), or maybe Sunderland the week after.

Just moments ago while at the computer, I suddenly heard a jet coming over the house --- low down.  Unusual for around here because we're off the regular flight paths but they sounded military.  I dashed outside to see if I could spot them but they had already gone out of view.  I called the nearest airport to me (Red Deer Regional [in Alberta]) and they said they hadn't had anything so I called Calgary Internaional (100 miles south south west of us) to ask if they knew anything, turns out it was a couple of CAF CF-18's which had over-nighted in Calgary and were returning to Cold Lake in the north.
