(Barely) caught this one - with the heat index, it's 95F in Pittsburgh, so I'm not spending much time outdoors!

While in the Lake District near the well named hill of Great Cockup ;D I could hear a helo going over. Looking up it was a bright yellow Sea King on SAR duties heading in the general direction of Carlisle and the hospital there. This was on Saturday.
Thank goodness they weren't looking for me.

So was this great cockup near the town of little minge??? And what were you doing near a great cockup???

Strange weekend over Schloss Jackson:

At 1330ish on Saturday, the BBMF Dakota flew along the beach around 750ft - very stately. Apparently it was Veterans Day in Southport, the 'red's were due to come, but somewhere along the line they had been cancelled.

Sunday, mid afternoon, a Tiger Moth (or Stampe equivelant) doing restrained aerobatics over the fields to the southeast.

Monday morning around 1030 a pair of Griffins probably from Shawbury flying very close flying northwest then banked over RAF Woodvale turning eastward - I was in the local Homebase carpark. Not seen them around here before. Very quiet, aren't they  :o

It looks too short to be an R44.  I'd say it's an R22.

Cheers,

Logan

No guesswork involved on that one. It says "R22" right on the can. Just look a bit aft of the door opening directly in line with the rotor mast.

They still got the Phantom on the gate at Woodvale Ian?

The Phantom went years back, Martin, cannot remember exactly when (probably turned into Coke cans by now). The gate guardian position wasn't filled until last month, when we got a plastic Spit I (or II), with 41 Sqn markings..... Cannot think why, 41 was never at Woodvale. It looks really nice though, even down to the sprayed-on exhaust plume. If you want pics, Martin let me know.

Nowt for ages then a few interestings ones at the same time.  Yorkshire Air Ambulance MD902 over my mates house, probably making a drop off at Hull Royal Infirmary, they set down at the old Cricket Circle, the RAF's Sea Kings are more likely to be seen there.

A total surprise was an Apache as I was driving home from Hull, around 5.40pm-ish.  I don't know were their nearest base is, but I guess he was lost!  He was heading south over the Humber, so maybe nev saw him too???
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

last night: a C-17 at Medium height, and a Chinook, quite high (for a chopper) and going very sedatley.

Today: a camoflauged Gazelle flew over low (Didn't know any still flew in Camo) and then a Tiger-moth (or similar) in RAF trainer yellow.  ;D

Wattisham to the south (or Driffield to the north).

Driffield?  That's pretty close, although I thought it was closed some time ago & I don't know of any AAC presence.  Daft question mate, but you don't mean Dishforth do you?

Nope - neither seen nor heard Apache.  If Air Ambulance was yesterday it may have been  from the accident at one of the refineries yesterday where a bloke got killed :(

Yeah, could have been, heard about that on the news, horrible business.  Always worrying in our neck of the woods when you hear about this kind of thing, a lot of chemical industry around here & potenital for disaster.  We had a fire here at a Seven Seas warehouse a few months back, fortunately no-one was hurt.

Sunday evening, blisteringly hot, I saw this K8 tracking around looking for enough lift to get back its Bicester base. He must have made it OK as he was on the ground there later as we passed en route to a local place for dinner.

Was working outside yesterday with Dad and I heard a helo coming our way.  Having a veritable forest for a backyard I eagerly followed my ears and spotted the helo as it emerged into the open.  What I saw was rather confusing.  It was an all black SH-3 Sea King with no markings (that I could see anyway), had a radar pod sticking out of the nose (left side), and no pontoons for the main gear.  The main gear was like a Royal Marine version with the fixed metal framed gear supports.  It was rather strange and friggin awesome at the same time  ;D  Anyone know who might have been flying it?  There was a British oiler of the RFA docked at Norfolk over the weekend but last I checked they didn't fly Sea Kings.
