Just had the North East Air Ambulance land in at the estate at the back of our house.

Its been rather cloudy here of late, though on occasion I have been getting images of the heavies as they pass overhead.

Had a KC-130 (?) fly over the other day, it was entering a cloud before I could get a decent shot of it.

Other aerial creatures in the air over the house...some like to land and watch what else there is flying about...

The Wooksta!

The police helicopter was hovering over the student march in the Toon today.

I get to see the usual mix at ACY.  Spirit A310/320s, F-16s, the odd KC-10, KC-135, C-17 from McGuire doing touch and goes, occasionally a VC-25 or -32 out Andrews, sometimes a C-5 or A-10.  Although I find it amusing that the FAA still has a couple of CV-580s in service that they use to shuttle staff between the Hughes Technical Center and Washington.  And one of these days, I'm going to remember to have my camera handy for that.

Playing about with the new 14mp/15x optical zoom, caught this late this afternoon:

FlightAware had him at FL34

And Hawkeye's hawk's cousin has been visiting me :-) :

Couldn't see anything - low overcast, rain, wind, just plain nasty - but I heard a C-5 outbound from DAFB this morning, something like 3:30 or so, really growling with a heavy load.

They certainly have a distinctive sound!

Howard of Effingham

late saturday afternoon saw a RAF C-17 on the ramp over on the cargo side of birmingham international airport.

Was walking back from the store when I heard a large distinctive roar like a turboprop(a Bear bomber?), after a couple of minutes later the source for that noise flew by. It was a Bell 412 Griffon flying over my neighbourhood, I didn't see any markings but it is a dark colour(thanks to the sun's glare reflecting off the helicopter fuselage) so it could either be a civilian user or Canadian Forces.

It was 4-bladed, though it could have been quieter(definitely not good for commando operations).

This literally went zipping past my place. A Hughes 500D

I had a Jet Ranger earlier, don't see them much any more either.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Typhoon did a go-around here at Prestwick earlier, and then an AAC Defender did a couple of circuits, that and a Ryanair 737 training.

Should say AAC Defender = Army Air Corps, Britten Norman Defender.

May have been one of several which rescued trapped motorists on a highway west of home on that day(or one of the spare ones at least).

A couple from yesterday...

The inspector made a low level pass down the backyard.

One from this morning. FedEx departing after an earlier morning arrival. Typically it arrives around dawn and stays until evening. Nice surprise seeing rise above the trees across the field and then fly over the house.

I was out today doing some Raptor photography...this nearly mature American Bald Eagle apparently has some tail damage.

and when I got home this shot presented itself.

I was hoping to get more shots with the moon as it nears being full, but we are expecting another major snow storm and with it cloudy weather...we'll hope for the best as Tuesday is the  Winter Solstice and with it the days start to get longer again.

The Eagle with the damaged tail feathers:  I've seen quite a few Eagles and Ospreys with similar damage, usually due to attacking crows/ravens/whatever when the raptors were either too close to nests, hunting.fishing areas, or just "there."  Since i live across the street from a major east coast National Wildlife Refuge, I get a lot of chances to see such stuff.

One time, about 1998-ish, I remember seeing a pair of Osprey attacking an Eagle, similar to the way crows may attack a hawk, and the Eagle dropped its cargo (fish).  One of the Osprey caught it on the way down, both of them formed up and headed towards a pier where they both shared a meal.  This was also witnessed and filmed by a pair of biology students . . .
