Interesting looking bird Fred. Almost like someone mounted a Cockatoo's head on a hawk of some kinds body ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Not thought of them that way but there is a similarity.  I wonder if there is common ancestry*.
They do have large claws which you wouldn't want getting hold of you.

*Obviously there is if you go far enough back, but I meant more recently.

The cranes are heading south.
Some days ago, I saw about a hundred, struggling a bit to hold a good formation. Yesterday there was a smaller group circling in a thermal.

You should be glad, Fred that they fled at your approach.  When they are antsy I understand it that a flock can attack and strip a person to the bone in seconds...   :banghead:

Heading east at around 5000 ft today, a B-52 of all things!  :o Not something you see every day in the UK, unless you're around Fairford.

It must have been heading for Lakenheath or Mildenhall, which are only a few minutes flying time east of my 'country home'

That's what I was thinking as well. There were a couple of photos in my paper during the week.

Either the same B-52 or another one, just passed overhead going in the OPPOSITE direction!  :o

Perhaps they'd flown over from Barksdale to Lakenheath for lunch?  ;D
