40 to 1 ratio is about the going rate. A chap I once shared a school staffroom with spent time rallying, and reckoned on 40 hours preparing the car for every hour of actual competition driving.

One of Alberta's STARS Airbus H145 helicopters just flew over the house, 15 mins ago it was rushing north, and just now, it came back flying a lot slower ---- first time I've seen their H145, it does have quite a different sound to it.

I drove up to Carlisle on Sunday, and saw NO ARIAL ACTIVITY WHATSOEVER, until 5pm today, when a coastguard helicopter went over our cottage travelling fast and low towards the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The RAF are taking the opportunity of your absence to pepper the skies in Glos, and Hereford with Herks. All sorts and colours at all levels.

Some of them may even have been foreign, but if they didn't land or drop anything off I guess they won't have to self-isolate for 10 days....

overflying at an altitude, while makign an approach for Ostend Airport, was an Indian Air Force C-17A Globemaster.
came in to pick up 4 large tanks of oxigen for the Indian Covid aid.

Just got told of some grim news about this sighting, it went to an accident about 2 1/2 miles to the northeast of us. A couple of old ladies in a car ran a stop sign and got broadsided by a truck which had the right of way. Impact knocked the engine clear out of the car and the passenger succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Saw a Sentry AEW as I was walking home, two days in a row. I believe they're NATIO aircraft covering the retiring Sentries untill the Wedgetail enters service.

An AW169 air ambulance of Specialist Aviation Services over Hull city centre. Quite striking in line green and grey.

Two Finnish Army NH90 helicopters pretty low over the suburb.
I don't usually see them here, and they were not headed straight for the airport/air base.

Family Rheged sat out in the garden, having a lunchtime barbecue. Several single engined light aircraft flew over, probably from nearby Shobdon airfield, using the unusual shape of the building of which Chateau Rheged is part as a landmark. One aircraft flew in several decreasing circles over us and Madame R and I idly speculated about it, wondering if (like the far famed Ooozulum bird) it would finally disappear up its own exhaust pipe. I even went to get my camera in order to record this phenomenon but after a few more circles, it aviated off towards the airfield. Half an hour later, a couple of microlights flew low over us, converting valuable hydrocarbon fuel into noise and annoyance.

While waiting for train (as you do...) at Watchet on the West Somerset Railway y'day, I was buzzed repeatedly by numbers of Wildcat helicopters. They were in groups of two mostly and seemed to be heading for Wales and returning.

The proximity of No. 40 Commando's HQ at nearby Taunton may have had something to do with the activity of course.

Not exactly what you'd expect flying through the air --- well not now anyway. Yesterday the tree guy who cut our old dead trees down last year came back to grind the stumps out, and dug up this with the grinding machine --

As best I can identify it -- yes.

I fairly sure it's one of these, a Type 17 German WWI grenade. Whether it's live I've no idea, it didn't go bang when the machine hit it but you can't be certain. I'm going to report it to the police tomorrow.
