This afternoon I heard a different drum in the air and i.t was quite massive. Looked up to the skies and there were 4 AAC wildcats AH1 closing in at rather low level!
Had to restart the camera on the phone twice before I got it working. But managed to make a picture of the last one in the square formation. Oh. I'm in the Netherlands, not UK.

Cheers,

Is it just me, or do choppers with BERP rotors make a louder noise than standard ones? Maybe it's just a different sound, but it's very distinctive, specially with Merlins.

I lost count: five or six fast jets heading towards the airport/base, while I was out with The Dog. I only caught glimpses through the trees but the first one was certainly a Hornet and the last one was not. Looked like a Eurofighter Typhoon tail. I'm pretty sure it was one of the RAF fighters visiting Finland now for a bit of training.

A small YELLOW  helicopter with the word ELECTRICITY emblazoned on each side.  Flying extremely low over the power cables near Chateau Rheged.   I assume that it was checking cable continuity and/or looking for hot spots, but Madame R speculates that the helicopter was in fact electrically powered.  Whichever,  an MBB BO105  at about 50 feet  is a ridiculously noisy item!

It was like a race track over here today. Loads of airliners headed west, in groups of 3-4.

All twins of course, and they could have been anything from an A318 to a 777.

North Herefordshire's  skies are full of high level twin engined aircraft; all I assume on their way to the Excited States of America.  At a very much lower level, we have just had a quartet of Hawks  using the particular shape of Chateau Rheged as a waypoint.  They approached in two very noisy pairs  at about 500 feet  from the East, overflew us, then did a 180 degree turn and headed back the way they had come.

A pair of Air Tractor AT 802F Fire Boss floatplanes flying west.
White and red scheme similar to this photo. I'll see if I can find out the operator.

Not over my house but.... I took a look on https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=467896,46788f,4b7f5a,4b7fac,4b7fae,4b7fa9 , yesterday and noticed Swiss PC-21 trainers playing over southern parts of Sweden. Looks like combat manoeuvering in pairs. They are there again.

For the last two hours, we have had Ospreys (or just the one  thundering back and forth)  over our house.   I assume that the SAS are playing with a new toy (or toys)

The unmistakable sound of a single Griffon at part throttle o'head here today.

It must have been a Spitfire XIV or XIX, there being no other single Griffon engined aircraft flying in the UK these days, but sadly I didn't get a glimpse of it. :(

There is a Seafire XVII.

ALMOST counts as a Spitfire................  ;D

Around here, with Sywell just up the road and Duxford in the opposite direction my money was on a XIX.

The blighters were back again today (two of them) and so low  that any irate rustic with a 12 bore could probably have winged them.
