Whoa, NICE! And speaking of Super Spitfires, what about a turboprop version?

Hi Joe,

First of it doesn't look like a Seafire Mk.47, these had bubble tops (you can see the 'razor back in this photo) and the air intake was directly behind the spinner and the lower cowling was deepened to take the air duct to the carb.  I'm not sure why the prop blades have been squared off either.

A Seafire Mk.47:

I think it's this Spitfire Mk.XIX really:

Edit:  Reading the caption under this photo reveals this Mk.XIX has been re-engined with a Griffon from a Shackleton which would explain why the blades have been cropped.

Yup, this is an ex-RAF PR.19 that was donated to Thailand in the mid-50s.
When restored, it was fitted with an ex-Shackleton Griffon 57 (rather than the original 67) and kept the contra-prop (albeit with cropped blades).
Unique, but not a Seafire FR.47.
On the French civil register now, I seem to recall.  A 1/72 kit based on the old MPM PR.19 is available from the firm that owns Whirlybird decals.

Sort of!  I'd use the regular canopy, but otherwise, YES!

There is this one too which looks like a converted P-51H and possibly the one which got the Learjet wings, I believe this was how it looked before it crashed:

It was then further converted to look like this and this is the model of it:

I got this one in the stash too.

Here's another model of a Griffon powered Mustang:

QuoteCan these bellends not leave well alone?  If you want to build an out and out racer, design it from scratch and stop f*cking about with classic warbirds.
Well, Miss Ashely came pretty close, though she was obviously derived from the Mustang's lines.  Really, the Learjet wing is a good one to start with since it's a single-piece wing, just like the P-51's, though you need some major structural and plumbing changes to suit it to a taildragger.

I know what you mean - at least some have tried to create new purpose built racers such as:

Isn't that the plane that crashed into another P-51 a few weeks ago?
