[Sentinel Chicken]

Suppose instead of getting F-104 Starfighters (or even their preferred choice, the F11F-1F Super Tiger), the Japanese get the F-8 Crusader? This image shows one in the markings of 207 Hikotai which in the early 1970s was based in Okinawa in the air defense role. Unlike other JASDF Starfighters which were baremetal, 207 Hikotai painted their Starfighters in an overall light gray for corrosion protection against the tropical sea air around Okinawa. So this Crusader is in that same color with the distinctive tail markings of the 207 Hikotai.

JASDF Starfighters also had white wings for peacetime safety recognition and I carried that over on this illustration with the Crusader's outer wing panels painted white.
