Whatiffing Influenced By New Releases?

Perusing the latest Squadron, there are a ton of "assembled" kits for sale now...Corgi has a huge line (hey, my little Corgi scout car has just as many miles on it as my jeep, I am sure...vrooomvroom) of stuff that is of exceptional quality.
  I seem to be noticing more and more what if's on the interenet, and at the local modeling club, perhaps due to the boredom of making a kit that you can buy prebuilt?

In another lifetime I've kicked this idea around, and it works for getting a kickstart after being in a dryspell for awhile (cuts down on the PSR ).
