I have been toying with one of those upgraded Panthers in Israeli markings.
Just something so right about German stuff being used by Israel.

Well, some time ago I did propose a "whaddya mean it doesn't fly?" GB for armour, ships, cars, figures etc.

You can of course sneak tanks into GB's here and there - the currents JSDF GB, the 3rd annual 1 Week GB (starts in 2 weeks!)

But yeah, I'd be up for that.

And me....

I've only ever had one idea for an armour build, I just don't know enough about it to get the ideas flowing.  I'm wondering wether to builld that or do something with the Airfix Cheiftain & Scorpion/Scimitar I've got in the stash.

My idea was to mount a howitzer or AA turret on the Revell Faun Elefant tank transporter, similar to the 8x8 Czech Dana/Zuzana.  Thinking about it, you could mount pretty much anything on it, SAM's, balistic missiles, MLRS type system.  The cab & superstructure would need 'beefing up' a little!

Just thinking now, I could a mount mini launcher on the Scorpion/Scimitar or turn the Cheiftain into a Scud A type balistic missile launcher.

The juices are starting to flow....    :ill:

EDIT, grab hold of an Airfix Bloodhound kit & build the Cheiftain as a mobile SAM unit, hmmm.....
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

hmm..i like the mobile sam idea... def different... reminds me of the monster Soviet 'SA.4 Ganef'... lol

there was a proposal to mount the 'Blue Water' tactical missile on a tracked launcher, theres also a mention in the PRO. (no drawing tho, booo!) of a track mounted 'Thunderbird' AAM. (similar to 'Bloodhound') which would lend an air of credibility to your Chieftan idea  B)

Thanks Joe!  Looking up Bloodhound, I've found that the Swedes were interested in a mobile version, Bloodhound Mk IV (Mk III was a nuke), but I can't find anything other than that.  I've no idea what platform it would be mounted, wether wheeled or tracked, truck or tank, British or Swedish or how many Bloodhound it might carry.  Might just have to guess!

A Centurion could be British and Swedish and is OK for time frame

I've been tossing around the idea of mounting Hellfires on a Bradley A3... then taking it into the office to see if anyone notices

How about a Panther or Tiger in Israeli service - suitably upgraded of course?

Thanks Carlos, but it's a Cheiftain that's in the stash & I really want to start thinning it down!

I have to agree - and I guess I should read earler posts a little bit more carefully than making the same suggestion :dum: .  Not to worry though since I'm really leaning towards the Israeli Tiger idea.

Now to consider sizes verses firepower verses everything else for the 88mm KwK 36 L/56, 105mm L7 and even 120-mm L11A (Does anyone have a good source of info for this comparison???).  Also, by say the the late '60s would the armor of the Tiger need upgrading - I'm tending towards yes.

Then how about an Israeli Chieftain?  After all, back in the '60s, Britain proposed a "package deal" whereby Israel would buy hundreds of obsolete Centurion tanks (which they did and thereby gave the British some desperately needed cash) and would also participate in the final stages of Chieftain development.  The eventual plan was for the British to then also sell Israel the Chieftain as well as help set up a local assembly line for the tank in Israel.

In the real world, Israeli-British cooperation lasted for about three years. Two prototypes of the Chieftain tank were delivered to Israel. However, Arab states intervened. They threatened Britain with sanctions, with pulling their monetary reserves out of British banks, and other actions. Demonstrations were held in Arab capitals and British embassies were attacked. In November 1969 Britain withdrew from its Chieftain deal with Israel.

Now, what if either Britain withstood these protests and went ahead with the deal or even what if Israel simply reverse-engineered the copies they had (maybe with some carefully timed stealing of plans - ala Swiss Mirages).  The end result being a Chieftain in Israeli colours.

Greg
