I usually build at a glacial pace, so this will be therapeutic for me!  I'm turning a couple of 1/144 fighters and some random bits into a small spaceship kinda like the AMT Leif Ericson-

It's tiny- 4 or 5 inches long, but tiny makes for fast building.  I might be over-excited by a whole weekend off, but progress is being made between  doing everything else.

Spacecraft absolutely count.  Like it sez in the rules - any subject, any scale.

Sales of Airfix kits plummeted in the 1980s, and GCSEs had to be made easier as a result - James May

Progress!  It's pretty much assembled, with only a few small fins and the nose cone to add.  I'll post some pics as soon as I can find the camera.  Base coat of paint tonight, decals tomorrow and I should finish just under the wire.  This is fun!

Looking forward to seeing this done, I have this kit and have been debating whether or not to build it as the Leif Ericson or maybe getting a little freestyle with it. I sure wish I could get ahold of one of the original Leif kits!

This is not  the AMT kit!  Just an unholy amalgamation of tiny bits- 1/144 Rafale-M upper fuselages, submarine dive planes, a WWII drop tank, etc.  It's falling together pretty well. Originally I was hoping for something like an old Battlestar Galactica  Eastern Alliance Destroyer, but the Heller Rafale fuselage didn't split at the right spot.  With one week to build I have to adopt, adapt, improve!  It's your spaceship, freestyle rules O.K!

DOH! I guess I should slow down while reading posts! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Spaceships and What-If are perfect for each other!

Some filler, a coat of paint and it's looking better.  Still need to pretty up the paint job, add the "dive planes" to the tower and stick on the decals.  I WILL finish that in the next 24.5 hours.  I even had time to build a stand.  I like kits with stands.

Man you really chopped up the Rafale parts because I still can't see anything on it that resembles a Rafale, even after looking at your in-progress shots!  Good job.

Andrew - that looks fantastic! You should post it on the SSC board at SSM
